    This black beauty is a stunning example of a pre-cat GTB that looks phenomenal and drives even better. It is thoroughly documented with it’s original warranty card and records going back to 1995 demonstrating meticulous maintenance and care. My client purchased what was already a nice, original and solid car from LBI in 2015 and immediately embarked upon a no expense spared endeavor to bring the car to the next level. Approx. 20k dollars was spent over the next year on not only a major service, but much preventive maintenance to ensure the car would be trouble free for years to come. More specifically, the following work was carried out, all within the last 2000 miles and mostly in 2016;

    • Major service to include water pump rebuild, tensioner bearings, timing belts, & plug wires
    • Ignition system troubleshooting, replacing both ignition coils (car already has been upgraded to a modern Petronix ignition box)
    • New front main seal, new oil sending unit, and replacing all oil lines throughout the car
    • Total fuel system troubleshooting & cleaning to include removing fuel tank and cleaning, replacing fuel filter and fuel pump, and installing new fuel lines
    • All new coolant hoses & pipes (including the aluminum pipes running the entire length of car)
    • Replaced both right and left heater fan motors
    • New switch plate sets for Fan/Hazard/Wiper Speed/Aerial
    • New choke & carb bezels for interior controls
    • Body work to include repairing small rust areas in the rocker panels and subsequent painting of all lower panels, including the front valence after repairing cracked fiberglass
Of course, prior to my clients purchase, numerous records detail much additional work, including several major services, a suspension rebuild in 2012 to include new Koni shocks and stiffer springs, a Birdman fuse box, installation of a Larini exhaust, and new clutch and resurfaced flywheel approx. 20k miles ago. The following link was from LBI’s advertisement in 2015 and contains photos of all receipts from 1995 to 2015, the color certificate, and original books

    https://lbilimited.com/offerings/1977-ferrari-308-gtb/

The car comes with complete books (including the original warranty card), records back to 1995, Original Color Certificate from Ferrari, a complete tool & jack kit, it’s original spare wheel, and a factory silk red car cover.

My client has recently relocated to Manhattan and thus sees little opportunity to use the car in the future, so has authorized me to sell the car. The car is currently located at my home in Charlotte, NC and the asking price is $84,900 OBO for what has to be one of the best driving and thoroughly maintained cars on the market. Other than a "Vetro" or dry sump car, the early pre-cat cars are the ones to own. Bump for a really great GTB!

Given the recent activity in the 308 market - Oengus buying his 77 and a couple of nice Euro spec QV's listed here on Fchat - I figured I would go ahead and bump this one again!

Valves are original from factory, so yes, sodium filled. The engine has not been rebuilt, nor does it need it now. Could the valves break or fail at any time? Theoretically yes, just like all of them unless they have been rebuilt with stainless steel valves. As to passing CA emissions, I can not answer that as the car has never been in California - but what I can say is I sold another 77 GTB to a client in California about 3 months ago and I have not heard of any problems with that car and it did not have the original air pump hooked up, etc. Currently 22451 does not have the air pump installed, as is evident from the pictures at the beginning of the ad.

I bought the #21169 from Glenn/Gil and can vouch for how great they are and how fantastic the 308 is. If I had more money I would have looked at 22451 for sure.

Hi Glenn. Being a 1977 California may not require emissions/smog.
Classic cars do qualify for a smog exemption in California. By definition, a classic or antique car is any vehicle that is 25 years or more old. Since cars built before 1975 are exempt from the California smog certification program, owners are not required to have their vehicles checked for smog-producing emissions. This include oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbon emissions and carbon monoxide emissions. Pre-1975 cars have rudimentary emission control systems that usually consist of exhaust gas recirculation valves, as well as early manifold air pressure sensors. However, this is about the limit of any emissions add-on hardware. The other cure used was leaning out the fuel-air mixture as much as possible.

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.

agreed; however, there are exceptions for classic vehicles which are >25 years old for which this does classify. The best idea is to contact the local DMV wherever you're thinking of registering the car and get their input - whether its California or elsewhere.

As we all know, your local DMV is not user friendly, & dose not want you car in their state, if they can find reason to keep it out. If they can’t find a reason, they will make it as painful & expensive as possible. Think I may have had bad DMV experiences in different states? Perhaps.

So this was my experience with out of state car and Cali DMV. Almost 2 years ago I bought a East Coast 85 QV and brought it back to Cali. I had 30 days or so to do the smog thing. Had the car in a Ferrari shop repairing to pass the smog. It wouldn't pass so we had to rebuild the fuel distributor which had to be sent back to some specialist in the East Coast. Anyway I missed the 30 days registration but the car finally passed the smog. I got slapped with out of state fee, late registration fee on top of the normal fee, ended up like 15% of what I paid for the car. Also you have to bring the car in for visual inspection at the DMV station. A month after I bought the East Coast car I bought another 85QV car from Calif, it passed smog and no problem with registration. Now every two years I have to deal with smog tests. The price to pay living in CA.

I think you're referring to the classic car / historic vehicle exemption for vehicles over 25 years old that are only driven to events and car shows, but that changed around 2015. From CA DMV "New Information- Vehicles that are 1976 year-model and newer assigned Historical Vehicle License Plates are not exempt from smog requirements based on designation as a historical or collector vehicle."
