Interesting race from St. Petersburg yesterday. Rosenqvist gave a good accounting of himself in his debut race for Ganassi. It's going to be a competitive championship. BHW
Yes, I enjoy watching IndyCar races cause you never know who's going to win ... unlike F1 where whoever is ahead on the first turn of the first lap usually wins ... And it was good to see Robert Wickens at the race helping his team!
I love that Wickens is updating us on his progress. So inspirational. I thought it was a good race, except for the 30min where NBCSN lost the feed. Rosenqvist was very impressive. Reminds me on Wickens last year. Shame for Seabass going out so early. I had my fingers crossed for a 3rd in a row.
Danica Patrick joining NBCS as analyst at Indy 500. Reunited with Paul Tracy. Shakes fist at Tracy... https://www.yahoo.com/sports/danica-patrick-join-nbc-sports-112251096.html BHW
Helio in the booth with Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy would be great! That way we may send Diffey back to Australier. Was hoping to see Helio at Sebring but due to late Friday afternoon arrival and Saturday morning rain, unfortunately didn't work out. BHW
Goodyear and Cheever had zero chemistry IMO. Cheever acted as though he hated the gig. Many of the crew from years past did fine work. Tom Sneva provided color for a few seasons. He at times sounded like he was half-lit and offered some unfiltered commentary.
Cheever at times could offer some genuine insights into racing from behind the helmet. At other times, he wanted to make it all about himself so he came off as a bit of a blow hard. Goodyear seemed a bit whiney and would carry on and on about how he so nearly won at Indy vs. Unser, Jr. it grew old quickly. Compared to what we've had to endure over the years, this team isn't so bad. As long as they keep fan-boy Diffey corralled, on script and he doesn't go wandering off into one of his "I had dinner with..." raps and paraphrasing driver quotes as if they were told to him directly as he does ad nausea. But watch, Bell and Tracy goad him into these wild deviations and then openly goof on him when he takes the bait. New blood is always a good thing. With this opportunity, hopefully NBC doesn't blow it and make it like one of their NASCAR shows with the endless hype that no event can ever live up to. BHW
Anybody going to the race at COTA this weekend? We thought about it, but Austin is a pretty good haul from here and we’re going all-out for the Barber race weekend with RV camping etc in a couple of weeks, so decided to sit Austin out. I figure the Indycars should be very racy and put on a good show around COTA, should be lots of good passing opportunities.
Scott is a bit more reticent about mentioning 1995. Paul Tracy was robbed of a 500 victory, as was Raul Boesel.
I'm here. I've got an extra ticket for the Main Grandstand Upper Level today (Saturday - FP3, Qual). Might be a little drizzly at times today, so covered upper level might be nice. I'll be in Turn one for the race. Weather should be great Sunday as it was yesterday. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Haha. We can't help ourselves. Best time in FP2 was a 1:47.xxx ...a bit off F1 pace, but fast enough to be enjoyable for certain. I'm looking forward to some good racing.
IndyCar could easily make rule changes and get their cars to go faster (as can F1). Rules dictate a lot in that regard as the Porsche 919 has shown if it disregards them. Side by side video of F1 and IndyCar at COTA is interesting and to me an IndyCar looks more fun to drive. You have to fight the steering wheel a lot whereas the F1 looks too tame/boring to drive as it's too smooth with handling.
The last time IMSA was there Jordan Taylor put the Cadillac DPI on pole with a 1.54.809. The current version DPI would be faster but not 7-8 seconds faster.
COTA pole times broken down by driver, make, series, year and time. Lewis Hamilton Mercdes-Benz Formula One 2018: 1:32.237 Neel Jani Porsche 919 LMP WEC 2017: 1:44.741 Will Power Penske Chevrolet Indy Car 2019: 1:46:018 Ricky Taylor Cadillac DPi IMSA 2017: 1:54:809 Marc Marquez Honda MotoGP 2018: 2:03:605 Please don't hate because Hamilton is fastest. That is all... BHW
