Spider I watched your video, glad to see how you removed the bearing fairly easy and that the one needed was smaller than what you had purchased in first place(smaller one is a lot cheaper) On the other hand I noticed you could pull the shaft in and out with ease with the bearing removed, it shouldn't have to be that way. The inner shaft fits tight in the inner bearing(see diagram), and the inner bearing fits tight in the block. I assume there must be something worn on the inside, either the shaft or the housing. Sorry to mention this over and over, but I ran into the same problem, and guess what? I had to rebuild the inner shafts If you want pictures, no problem, my engine has been taken completely apart. John.
Hi John Appreciate all the input here, really is helpful. Today I went to Maranello to switch over the parts. While there I was fortunate enough to go in the warehouse again and check a couple of parts. This will be in the next video but Ill put photos on here as it will be good reference for anyone doing this particular job in the future. Agree with you the movement of the drive gear is to much, something is worn or damaged. So the side cover will need to come off in order to check the gear shaft and the inner bearing. To get a concept of exactly what I'm up against, so far looking at the parts and service manual has been great but until you see actual images or the real thing its difficult to grasp what's involved. So we check a V8 308/328 era engine block and also the gear itself (see pics) I now know exactly what is needed and really apart from the hassle of possibly removing the engine the job doesn't look to bad. Mornin Morning Spider, great pictures, I fully agree with you, looking at the parts makes it easy to understand what's involved and how it's put together. I have already done that task and you are correct, with the engine out its pretty much straight forward, not difficult at all. It's time consuming, removing the exhaust headers, water and water hoses, drive shafts, clutch housing, clutch, flywheel, etc, etc. I decided to repair the inner shafts with a sleeve (got pictures on the repaired shafts) instead of buying new gears. The machine shop charged 10 euros for the task. Chose this route because the outer shafts and gears were perfect, no need to replace, only worn inner shafts. Let me know if you need any hints or pics. Keep it up! You're saving a lot of money doing all the work yourself, I do the same thing and with your knowledge, can't see anything going wrong. John.
Sorry guys its been a while on this neglected 308 project. Finally at long last I've had some time to film a bit more work on the 'troublesome' stallion
As I recall, the rear window defrost rocker switch which the OP is seeking is the same as was fitted to a Ford Escort of the era, complete with the Ford logo molded into the switch body. I'd therefore suggest that you pull this switch from your other 308 and have a careful look.
Thanks Dave, the strange thing is its also missing from the grey 308 to ??? Ill check out some ford switches from the era and see how they compare
Scott, Dave is talking about a mk1 Escort or Capri switch. They are extremely rare. The Ferrari version was a small run done by Ford of Cologne that had a different chrome surround than the regular Ford part. http://308restoration.com/2013/11/ford-parts-in-a-ferrari/ However, I’m not sure these were fitted to injection cars. I thought they were just the carb cars so you might want to check. Regards David
Yup, that's the one! It was indeed OEM in my early production run 1980. Since the OP is in the UK, one might reasonably hope that a breaker's yard there might have the odd old Escort lying about. If you might be lucky enough to find a couple of them, by all means grab all that you should happen across!
Good to know. Thanks. Mk 1 escorts and capris were getting rarer and rarer when I was growing up in the UK 30 years ago. I doubt there are many left there now. Maybe some mk1 Mexicos but they are probably worth more than the 308s Regards David
Thanks Guys much appreciated Someone just commented on the video as well Part Number 40094906 and its available here at ferrari parts maranello for just £23 !!! The only thing I need to check is the pins on the back of all of these look totally different to the connector block (I showed in the video).
With the red/black seats, you want have many choises. Or black again (Nero Fer1240 or nero 20-B-50 or other black)...or red Rossa Corsa Fer300 or other Red. Guido
This said.....black is'nt my favorite color. You see everything on it, also the most little unperfection on the bodywork will be reveiled. And you have to wash this car every day to keep it "presentable". Scott you can also keep it as "rat..." . Guido
Before starting the Euro Conversion on my car, i've given it a full major and DIY step by step how to.
