Anyone know how much the current owner paid for the 250 speciale that was no sale at 7.5m?

Seems like a lot to turn down unless he had offers before the auction.

First you should be sure that there was a real offer.

    Car last sold March 1998.

For sure. But if there was a real offer, and he bought it in 1998 - how much would that have cost back then - $1m? Werent GTOs $3m in the end of the 90s?

    At the end of the 1990s a 250 GTO was between 4.5 and 6.7 M USD$.

In December 1999 a standard 250 GT Coupé Pinin Farina was US$ 50'000 (average asking price).

All prices can easily be found on Harley Cluxton IV's app hammerprice.
Cluxton IV is the son of renowned Ferrarista Harley Cluxton III in Scottsdale (GTC/Mirage).

Fast forward 20 years and a very nice older restoration 250 PF Coupe brings $1.1MM per a recent auction result. Some classic Ferrari’s are dong better than others. The PF with it’s over 2000% increase beat out the 250 GTO by about 1000% or did twice as good in the last two decades.

This is an amazingly great app. No surprise the developer has longtime connections in the classic car world.

That said, it used to be 100% free and now has a $10 monthly fee... all great things must come to an end :)

Now for sale at Continental for $775k...

    https://www.continentalferrari.com/inventory/used-1968-ferrari-330gtc-00000000000011517

So apparently someone agreed that there was more money in the car than RM managed to get.

I looked over this car, and agree that (to my only modestly 330GTC informed eyes) it seemed hard to fault.

Mind you, I thought the Gooding car seemed pretty good too. Albeit, not quite was "flesh" in all regards.

Seems odd. Why bother buying that yellow 330 then try and flip it for that much?

When all is said and done, does the seller stand to make much money?

Aren't their costs associated with delivering it from the auction, insurance, plus a commission to the dealer who is selling it, and then taxes?

    Perhaps that dealer bought it?

Or does this mean Gooding's sell it?

    Thanks

    VV

I was assuming that the dealer bought it, and is trying to flip.

Symbolic appeared to do something similar with a silver Daytona several months back (bought for something like $550k and then advertised at close to $700k (if I recall right)). Hyman appeared to do the same for with a spyder-conversion red Daytona (bought for around $450k, now advertised for close to $600k).
