Trying to find (buy) a Superior/Make Up Models 1/43 kit of the Ferrari 250 LM. For those that know it is about the ultimate "holy grail" of 1/43 kits. May not be best 1/43 kit every done but it may be the most bloody difficult to do correctly. Nonetheless I want one real bad and will pay proper price for one.

    Anybody able to help me?

Here are some pics of kit.

I used to have one of these. I think I paid between $1200.00 and $1500.00 US dollars when it was new. Very expensive model, but not the best 250LM. I think the best is the Hiro 1/12th, but that is not 1/43rd.

    Tom,

Agree Make Up model not best but I have their 250 GTO, 312 models, Cobra, etc. So this would round out my collection. I have about 500 unbuilt 1/43 kits. Most likely I will die before I finish them. I also have every MFH 1/12 scale model made. And MFH can do some pretty nice models. But bloody hard to put together well! (Well for me--Not you!!!) Also have a bunch of Bosica kits. The Ferrari 156/85 and the 126C2. (Have 2-3 of each actually).

And then about 1500 other plastic models-Planes, tanks, cars, rockets, etc. Yes--It is a sickness!

And don't ask about book collection. (4000 and growing...)..... I need professional help.......

    Replied.
Sounds like you do have some issues - as do many of us, LOL. I resisted the Make Up kits when they were first released. The Bosica kits I owned most of, multiples on the 288 GTO, 356, and the 156/85, also at least 1-2 of the Carrera Panamerica Ferrari. All professionally built and sold off many years ago.

When you find one.... its around 3000 euro (for the kit :) ) I have a built version by Steve Barnett. In 1:43 its one of the best. At the time it was made (around 1990) it was a phenomenon.

The GTO is not my favourite… Shape is a lot less compared to the 250LM.

To have any Steven Barnett model is super cool, to have one of his 250 LM Makep kits has got to be incredible!
When and if you ever get “stupid” and want to sell it let me know. It will go to a good home.

I remember those. Yes they are rare and even back in the early 1990s when I started in the die cast business they were like gold dust. Back then it was around 200-400 dollars if I recall. I saw one - can't remember which - but my thought was as a kit it was more beautiful as a kit than finished. Saw the kit at Paulo Tron in Milan, Italy.

I think, from vague memory, that this particular kit was on the order of $900 or a little more. Paolo Tron's shop is in Loano, couple of hours from Milan but he did marry a young lady (forgotten her name) who ran a model shop in Milan which if memory serves was called Autominia.

Yes definitely in the higher price range. Just the earlier 427 Cobra kits were around $200, white metal body with stamped brass doors, hood and trunk . Paolo's shop was Milano 43. I used to buy a lot of models from Paolo, and also sold him many of my CMA Models limited edition pieces.

Yes, Milano 43. I cannot recall which kit I saw there and am kinda guessing on price but I did meet Paulo Tron there at his shop in Milan. This was before the time of the internet and for the life of me we couldn't find his store and after looking for a good hour finally had to hire a taxi and follow the taxi in our rental.

Yes, that's right - Enrica - he named a series of models after her.

Yes.... her name was used for his 1:14 scale models - also known as HE-14. Not sure if her name was used for any other series.

Before there was Milano 43 there was Autominia. Luckily it was in walking distance for me so no following of taxi was necessary.
