I thought it was clear that they needed to be based on cars made at least 25 years ago to justify the non requirement of safety equipment such as the airbags.

Jalopnik seems to agree with you back in 2015.

Still, it appears the NHTSA gave them the go-ahead.

As I'm not a lawyer I'll wait for them to chime in, if they can.

Interestingly, the way they received their approval is by not getting a denial. As I said, loopholes.

Might be why the newer his concepts the more they resemble old cars

I hope Jim can pull this off. The USA needs a small exclusive car builder. A company who can compete with the low production Italian stuff like Pagani, or like the Swedish koenigsegg. I hope the people with in the government can see this as a positive.

I just hope he can make the cars as good as they do. It would be very disappointing to have another Vector type situation.

No Low Volume Motor Vehicle homologation short cuts or loopholes needed by Christian Von Koenigsegg or an absence of safety equipment. Just compare the facilities, philosophy, experience, expertise, technology and development.

Not that anyone is asking, but if it were me I would look at this engine. these folks know what theyre doing, its a classic usa motor with 4v heads and emissions ready.

    I don't believe it's emissions ready. :(
"The SB4 is intended for use on pre-1968 vintage production cars due to emissions regulation compliance. It is built to specification as a naturally aspirated engine. It was not designed nor tested for use with a supercharger or turbocharger."
    and
    https://www.motortrend.com/news/mercury-racing-sb4-resto-mod-crate-engine-first-drive/
There's no variable timing or lift—this engine is optimized for performance with little regard for fuel economy or emissions (it is not CARB or EPA certified, so like many of the GM Performance crate engines, it's for off-road racing use and is only street legal when installed in emissions-exempt vintage vehicles).

SCG plant at Danbury CT airport will produce 004S and 006S.
    https://www.motor1.com/news/274580/scuderia-cameron-glickenhaus-plant/

003S’s and 007 LMP1’s will be built in Sleepy Hollow, NY and 005 Baja Boots in California. He will be working closely with Podium Technology and Aramada Engineering.

Unlike say Pagani, Koeniggseg, McLaren and Ferrari, SCG will be gathering parts and assembling their cars at these locations as opposed to the others who are much more of manufacturer's.
NOT trying to detract from SCG at all (incredible accomplishments and goals - especially as a start-up). Just saying there is a distinction.

yeah, I know Pagani does not produce their own engines and most use aftermarket parts such as brakes.

    Most companies are assemblers.
Plant at airport, thats 60s shelby style provenance.
The LT4 and LT5 are question markes for me. But they do work.

agree, they have more than enough power/torque, but, I think something with a higher rev limit would 'fit' 004S better.

NHTSA confirmed SCG with published status on US gov website with the SCG cars and images of the cars. Legally it’s a done deal. So SCG is, figuratively and literally off to the races.

If there’s interest I see if I can get permission to show some of the engineering videos of 004. It’s super cool. As I will have 001, I am pretty excited. The first 25 founders are being show weekly updates on very detailed engineering. It’s all quite amazing to see the amount of work that goes into it.

Redline on the Ford 5.2L Voodoo engine is 8200 rpm and sounds like nothing else.

HP isn't everything. I'm not remotely close to buying one of these cars for financial purposes, but if I were going for a 004, I'd much rather have a light car with perfect driving dynamics. A 1000HP engine isn't necessary for spirited driving. In fact, it hinders it, in most real world practical situations. 004 could work with a V6 or even a nice little turbo 4.

This is what doesn't make sense about SCG and the low volume manufacturer status, you're supposed to be making a replica under this law. So how Jim has gotten around this could be very interesting as for the intent of this new law.

Maybe they’ll pass as very coarse Ferrari replicas. Maybe why the badge is so similar too.
