Why isn’t the Houston Ducati club snapping it up?
Beautiful machine! I would buy that thing if I was on the mainland. What a great setup for touring around and in a sporty red color too! Maybe put an ad in here https://www.ducati.ms/ That's where I found my Duc and the seller was from Texas too!
I think it reflects that this was not a high volume model, it was discontinued after the second design version in 2007. Never a big seller, in other words. That is an era ago in bike terms, as well as performance targets. It is a 3 valve detuned version of the 992cc engine (996 in four valve form). That is a good question, at this price it is about to be more valuable broken to bits, as I rebuilt the black wrecked one from a company in Kansas City. The Club is all out on the 1198, 1299, the 2018 engine is a V4! "R" versions are highly prized, and range from $18 to $25K Time marches on...this was targeted at the adult rider, long distance touring, camping, I see some of them with 200K miles!! My "comp" to mine was a 24K miles example in New Orleans at $3400. But about town, absolutely no one sees the detail difference, larger dimensions, etc, of the ST3 over my 996. The reason I showed both bikes. Ducati did an artful job of scaling up the bar height, the seat elevation and making a huge tank for fuel, and yet they "look" the same. A day rarely goes by without comment at a stop light, from both sexes, but from a mundane car! Maybe the passion is fading, and people "just drive". That's a very good question and thanks for asking..see the earlier post about the ex Marine college guys, I would have loved to put it in that young man's hands. At the MotoGP I got a hilarious comment: "Back on the East Coast, no one YOUR age is out rocking on a sport bike!" I said "Mind your manners young man, and buy the next round" laughing, as some babes looked at my Ducati imaged helmet, the one with the engine cutaway view wrapped on it.....I am the oldest member of the Club. We had a WW2 jet pilot ace, sadly killed on his Diavel last year.... Thanks for the suggestion Kevin!!! This has happened at a terrible time, for me.....
Nice 996! Love the yellow! Gotta sell my old interceptor before I can get my dream bike, I du have some unique guns too?
Thanks. Surely there's someone looking that needs this little red toy? You can take your MOM on it, or maybe something hotter...... That yellow one came begging, a bad loan default among friends, but it came from way up North, with the Ducati dealer there telling me: "nice example".... Scared money never wins!!
Allen, I'd take it but I hardly have time to ride my 1098 or R1! Sadly. Plus.. space is at a premium around here! Have you Craiglisted it? Sent from my LG-H700 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
BigTex and I have struck a deal. I love any deal that involves a flight in, connecting with a fellow enthusiast and drive/riding something fast home! The VFR is going to need to make room for a friend.
They'll play nice in the garage together - they both have ridiculously complicated valve adjustment procedures...but hey, at least I won't have to remove the engine to change the cam belt like the four-wheeled red Italian. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The guns will be harder to move. I have a rare, I think, Smith & Wesson .32 Magnum stainless Airweight, shrouded hammer....I cannot find a comp, I think it's a Centennial? Looks brand new, no wear marks on the cylinder, with 100 rounds of mean looking jacketed hollow points!! And I have two matching (but non sequential serial numbers) nickle Ruger Vaqueros, .45 Colt, white handles. With those in my Western holster full of bullets, I am pretty much "The Law west of Buffalo Bayou", when the power goes off in a hurricane!! These are single action, of course.....and I have......I dunno, maybe 2000 rounds, of all description, as the guy loaded his own brass... Some of the loads are black powder, for the true period experience of the Old West!! I have never fired any of these pistols.....:/ The top gun was an estate sale find, the Vaqueros were a deal in a North Texas Walmart parking lot. So they might be "on the books" somewhere...but not in MY name! Ahem, back to this red bike........I believe I have a Sale Pending.
Oh yes, the CL listing put my phone number and email in the hands of "brokers who can help me sell it" and that guy that "is in the Service, cannot get emails, but wants to buy it as a surprise, for his little brother"...... You cannot have it because that would tie us, at three apiece, and right now I am winning! LOL! The only downside of the sale agreement is I have to get the two hard bags back on! The Austin buyer took the brackets off, to get a cleaner look....
LOL! My babe in Baton Rouge needs new shoes! Actually I PAID for the shoes last week, and not for "Back to School"!!!!
Well it's rolled 15K, so they are soon due! From the Ducati site, it would be good idea to see the rockers....at this current mileage.
I have done I10 to Orlando dragging racing sailboats in a van full of surfboards!!! I was young then...LOL! These days I would be more tempted to take I12 thru Louisiana, skip New Orleans and go from there. Food will be better!
Well, I say we have an internet handshake deal! LOL! With witnesses!! No worries, mate.... Wish the enthusiasm had kicked in, at $3500! But don't take too long, as I need to buy my F1 tickets and the Country Club Ferrari Reception dinner!! I see the mounting bracket keys for both bikes, I will unbox all the bags and see what else I need....and while I don't normally do this without my helmet I took it up past 70MPH on the Loop 610 and it's a rocket!
This is where a Texan says: "If worms had guns, birds would not eat them..." j/k Driving home to Costa Rica would be quite the adventure! Poor NYC guy on the green Kawasaki did not make it thru Mexico..
Ok, mark a date for your fly in, there are two hotels at "Brookhollow" across the street from my house. A Sheraton is high rise but there's a Marriott Courtyard also...ZIP 77018 I have the key /bag issue sorted it's the same one, that both lock s it to the frame and then opens the compartment. Don't know where I got another idea... You asked about the paint quality, as these show I would say the condition is a "10" really, as gloss on the whole bike is "very good". I am driving it without the brackets until your arrival date is closer! But if you are certain, I will go ahead and hang them back on....
Glad you got the keys sorted. Last week of the month, like we discussed. I'll hop the first United flight into IAH on the 26th. Gets in just after 0800. I'll load the bike and be out of your hair by mid-morning Does that work for you?
