Lol, Google maps shows the fastest route from me to Calgary is 11 hours 15 minutes, so it is closer than Salt Lake City at 11 hours 18 minutes.

I live directly the butthole of America.

It's at an independent shop at the moment so I'll get them to look into it. I'll also take it over to the dealership as it's only a couple of miles away. I'll give them a call with my VIN beforehand to see if they can track it down if it's been done, but I'll want eyes on it as well.

You should have a dealer do it for 2 reasons 1) It will cost zero 2) You want a record tied to VIN that it has been done. Only a dealer can do that part.

Definitely call the dealer first. I went to the dealer hoping to exchange my fuel block for the updated version and my service advisor said it had already been completed per my VIN. I ended up having to buy it at ~$150. At least he put it in a nice gift bag. :)

beat me to it lol.. just finished watching it..

he said he smelt fuel.. but yet.. said something to do with the power steering reservoir cover being stripped off.. what the heck is that..?
and then.. attempts to limp car to garage.. after having smelt fuel.. was the car ending mistake, regardless of whatever happened to the power steering reservoir

    stinks of collaboration between them..!

Glad no one was hurt, that's a big flame.

3 weeks from now (fingers crossed, hoping) "the fire marshal and insurance have determined sabotage was involved in a cheap stunt. all parties will be fined"

I was watching that painful video and trying to skip through the boring content and it's got multiple adds thru the video, not just the start. Sorry, this stuff is just annoying and hurts the car and brand. It's all click bait.

I don’t see this video affecting the brand or sales at all. It just adds to the mystique.

I highly doubt the fire was on purpose.
    Preventable yes, intentional meh

That kid looked like he had pissed himself. When the cops got there he was not enjoying himself lots of worry and uncertainty in that kids face.

This experience highlights the importance to carry some kind of fire extinguisher in your car AND to have it somewhere that is readily accessible; in the front trunk (the 'frunk') is too time consuming to get to.
While I can't comment on the specifics of this fire, car fires most often start off slow and localized and only grow quickly from there. Having something on hand that can stop a fire before it spreads is essential and you can't imagine what a helpless feeling it is to not have an extinguisher when you have the ability to do something about a mounting fire situation.

I'd like to welcome all of you to learn a little more about our Element Fire Extinguishers from a piece we did together with Jay Leno :)

Message me for an F-Chat user discount and this is essential gear for anyone with a classic or special interest car.

Yes he is monetized but unless he plugs something himself, he dosen't control the ads that we see or how many.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of such a nice car, BUT... I don't care who you are or what kind of car you are driving. If you are driving and smell gas, you pull over and immediately shut the car off. If you see a leak, or smell the strong odor of gas from under the hood or from under the vehicle, you get the car towed to a garage for an in-depth inspection. Period. You don't call anyone except a tow truck.

Common sense. Dangerous to you and those around you, not to mention those that are called to put out the fire.

There's no question that the Virgin kid thrashed the pants of an already suspect 355. Choosing to then drive after smelling gas makes him a simpleton to boot. I wouldn't let him near anything combustible.
