More road testing today and dropped off at the body shop for some wet sanding and polishing then some more shake-down time behind the wheel. Fun to drive! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Back from a full polish. Fun car to drive, makes great power! I guess I should've smiled in the pic Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wanted to improve the shut lines so I moved the front clam back to tighten the door gap which means moving the headlights back and up. Not a fun job but Im glad I went through the process to get it just right. Maybe someone has as source for these white wiring harness retainers but I sure couldn't find any with countless hours of googling. So I had a bunch made! Original one in my hand, new one in use. Same with the boxer minispare decals. Some are made to look aged to match an original car and others are pure white. Injected boxers use 6 screws and nuts and 2 black rivets for the center row of louvers vs all rivets on the carb'd cars. Rear clam is done with the exception of every bright fastener must be blacked out. Looking through the restoration of this Boxer illustrates a great deal of information and insights that can/should be captured in the Boxer Buyers Guide thread above! Maybe a reply referencing this thread would make for a great resource of information!
I did the black out on the clam shells today among other things. Looks so much better without all the bling from the hardware. Had an appraiser come so Ill get the results Friday or Saturday. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Finally got my new and improved stencils for the wheels and air boxes. The air boxes are tough to do because of the textured black, the white wants to bleed and ruin my day. But I nailed it today! This is a correct late 84 engine bay. I say late as in around chassis 51000's and later. Another small detail, the wire clips for the front signal wiring plug that holds it to the plastic panel. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Newman, I'm VERY impressed with your work and how detailed you are. Maybe one day my '83 boxer may come your way. Thank you for all the detailed posts.
The attention to detail is over the top! Amazing work Newman! Long live Ferrari's form the 70's, 80's and 90's underappreciated for far to long...
The mini spare tire stickers pictured are incorrect. The original had square corners and are quite large. Stand by as I will have some of these available in the near future.
Same spare wheel stickers as used in the 308 series, perhaps? Post no. 3: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/restoring-old-308-dino-space-saver-spare-wheel.328940/
I have spare boxer wheels here with the original stickers still in place so unless they all shrunk the size is right and the corners are not square cut.
Hey Newman.. I could be wrong, but I reference a picture I took of an original 1983 spare with the original sticker (discolored over the years from the anti UV stuff in the tire). I also reference the last BBi built SN 52935 which I was able to photograph...same large square sticker. Perhaps you could post a picture?
That is a picture of the tire/wheel with the sticker attached? Also 52935 is a time capsule and is untouched from new, with a little more than 500 km on it.
Well, this is interesting. The fellow that posted the link to the 308 spare, with the accompanying picture, does show rounded corners on the sticker, but it seems to be large in size! If anyone out there has an original BBi spare with the original sticker still attached, could you please post a pic? Maybe this is one of those "Ferrari" things where there were different ones used at different times?
