Buy that man a beer.
Thank you for the approval guys! It really is amazing, it makes more sense to remake the whole skin than try to repair the very beat up old ones. Virgin Chinese sheetmetal, much better than the rusty Russian stuff used in the day Regards, Alberto
Made a new nose opening and a grille. The uprights are wrong and the grille is not finished. Just for the photo. Regards, Alberto
Door skins are on along with new 1/2 sills...moving along Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Inner sills. The front outers, cannot be welded until nose is re installed. Rust, rust, everywhere Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Tony! It has been ages, but we keep soldiering on.... Part of the passion When shall we know about your project? Please pm if you like. Regards, Alberto
Image Unavailable, Please Login Nice to see your transfer gauge in the shop! Do you guys use it much?
Hello Jon, it's an English wheel We use it for everything, well almost.. Are you available at the same phone number? Regards, Alberto
I still have the same contact info. I was talking about what’s inside the white plastic tube hanging on the wall..
More work... have to trial fit everything. Jon, what a great tool Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The turn signal openings, sort of look like the 'Breadvan', of course quite different, yet.... I like them, but with the units installed, not so much. Really dislike the Federalized indicators, they are going off, and the Euro are in! Regards, Alberto
Started repairing the leadwork where there was a huge gap with bondo, no less, but amazingly, no rust underneath. Someone in the past, ventured with the lead, but suppose gave up and went the easy way. Meanwhile, my fibreglass guy was running out of projects, so we pulled a(nother) mould off the engine lid. Always good to have around...and to hang on the wall. Can't tell one from the other, except for the crappy finish. As soon as the paint booth is free, we'll shoot some paint on it. I would do that modification as well Alberto, I personally think this is the one of the main items where originality gets the thumbs down. There are a few suppliers selling the whole assembly now but cannot vouch for their accuracy. Obviously the side repeater lights get euro lamps too? Looks like the guy who did that lead work lost his glasses and moleskin
Hello Tony, definitely will make the transformation. As far as the sheetmetal for the repeaters, I have about enough for 4 cars. Just cut and re weld, and if you ever want to go back, there is a template included. No biggie, but a vast improvement on the looks. Federalization made beautiful cars, not so beautiful, and with what result? The repeater assembly, I seriously ignore the quality that is being offered. The leadwork is just the last of many layers and needs to be finessed... Regards, Alberto
This is just an amazing project - what percentage of the car's metal do you think you'll have replaced by the end?
Alberto, I am sure your skilled sheet metal workers will enjoy the challenge converting to Euro front indicator lights. This is a few shots of the proces I went through for your inspiration. Just teasing you on the leadwork Never really understood why the US insisted on those mods, rather spoilt what you rightly say is a beautiful car. whats the time scale to finish, as once the bodywork is complete, reassembly should be relatively easy! Tony
I would estimate everything below the waist line, plus the front trellis, as in very sad shape. We started duplicating additional parts, and start a Dino library of sorts for future reference as most are unavailable, and not likely to be lent from another car.
