Chassis J12, not completed in period. It was one of the previewed lots for the Gooding Amelia Island auction.
Yes, an originally would be many millions but this is difficult to assess since it was only built many years after they were outlawed.
I would enjoy driving it to my local events or on a track sometime . It is just barely street drivable but real unlike a phony Cobra.
I understand what you are saying and agree BUT it fits somewhere between the built and raced J cars and the replica's. My understanding is that they were sold as incomplete chassis and while most parts were likely from the JWA/ Ford parts bin J11 and J12 cannot be said to be original (as built by Ford). And that is where all the money is, maybe still worth between $5 and 10 million but any of J2 - J8 would be around $10 - 20 million
AFAIK there has never been a J car/ Mark IV sold at auction. Closest comparable is a Gulf GT40 which is actually pretty much unrelated but hey ho RM sold a Mirage built GT40 Gulf team car for $11 million back in 2012 so in todays money, closer to $20 million and only Porsche 917s and Ferrari have consistently broken out of those price brackets stated above so seems right although I would add the Le Mans winning J5 would be in the $20 - 30 million range........
I for one wouldn't argue with that value although it seems low, I would of thought at least double that since it is a genuine legit FAV chassis but hey why not. Thanks for the info
