Guys, I've been watching this 355 on ebay for many, many months and it just isn't selling. I know the guy originally was asking $79k for it. It has 22k miles and a clean carfax with the major done 2 or 3 years ago (with very little mileage since). I think this car has been mostly sitting for the past 9 or 10 years for the most part. It looks great but I'm just surprised nobody has bought it. I know the market for our cars is small but I'm kind of scratching my head on this one. Thoughts?

Hate to say it. It mainly because it's a 355. Well known for expensive repairs. And ill bet this very site has a lot to do with 355 values.

The 355 is perhaps ferraris greatest drivers car. But make no mistake, it can be a nightmare to own. The selling prices and lack of sales reflect that. You really must be an over the top 355 enthusiast to put up with the various an constant issues. That car looks like a great deal..but who knows what is lurking underneath all that beautiful bodywork.

The 355 is drop dead gorgeous. The 308 is and always will be my first love but the 355 styling is sublime. I'll never get rid of my 308 but I've been pondering getting a second Ferrari and I LOVE the looks of the 355 but the performance and reliability of the 430 (along with the much reduced price and easy drivability for my wife) is intriguing as well.

Aside from a few obvious items in the photos, the car looks nice. But, at $79K, it's over priced in a down market. As a 355 owner, my 98 is no nightmare whatsoever.

Nightmare to own? Really? Come on man. That's not true and you know it.

It isn't an easy car to own. But it is a Ferrari. Want easy? Buy a Honda.

A nightmare? No. If you buy a POS Ferrari of any model it is a mess.

A decent 355 example is a joy to own and drive.

Two F355's in my garage, both pleasures to own.

Hard to speculate on price without knowing the car (and a PPI), maybe 6 or 7 bitcoin?

Ha, I went to the Ebay ad and saw $49k and said I'm going to buy this car. Then I went to their website and see it listed for $82,900. That's why it's not selling.

Great to hear. I forget if you left here with all black or had a red in the mix. I found a source 99% close to OEM for cases and will drop a red case in the mail if you need one.

Its because the oil pressure is too low at idle :). 82,900 is just too high, and I have a 96 just like it. I would love to see it go for 82K. As for upkeep, my 96, once I sorted some self inflicted issues from the previous mechanic, it has been a good car.

You can have mine for 79k!

No nightmare, nor constant repairs here.....and mine is a.....gulp....F1 Spider! :D When I purchased the car, I flew to Dallas and drove it back to KY....and IT MADE IT! :D

Seriously, if you are shopping a 355 you need to dig into the details of the year and model and determine what has and hasn't been addressed. I think the potential issues are well documented for each 355 model and year of production. The 355 does have more issues than a 308 to bite you. So you must do the homework on each considered car. What Watson said....a decent 355 example is a joy to own and drive.

Dave Rocks above mentioned that there were a few obvious items wrong with the car from the photos...what are they? I don't know 355's as well as I know 308's. :)

    Going from memory.....

    - Dash leather pulling a touch at the corner of one of the vents
    - Still some sticky parts: Instrument cluster, trim around radio, a few others
    - stick on shield, one side and wrong position
    - under bumper scrapes (common)
    - gap in leather, center lower dash (below radio)
    - single fuel pump and appears fuel divider block recall not done
    - old style power steering reservoir.

Again, these are from memory. It's still a very clean looking car.

where else does he advertise? I was watching a 348 in the same way. Blu Sera, berlinetta, grey interior. I couldn't find ANYTHING else out there about guy or his business short of what he was selling on ebay. With 56k miles (IIRC), and need of service, 52 was too much asking. Even talking to him on the phone, he really didn't seem keen to sell or work with me.

Sellers like that are hoping that a first-time buyer will snatch it with his eyes closed. A sucker is born every second. One major reasons why they're firm on the asking price. Buyers beware!
I wrench my own car and don't mind purchasing one with some flaws ... but not at that price!

I've been seeing that car for a long time, as well. I'd say for it to sell quickly it's worth low 60s. If he has a bit more time then 65 to high 60s for the right buyer.

I had more problems with my Lexus ES 350 than I had with my 355. Any problems I have had with my 355 have been very minor. I have owned my 355 for 10 years, put 6500 miles on it, and it hasn't missed a beat. The 355's time will come, however, even when it does, I'm not selling mine.
