It's been a long time I wanted to do this and, after the last rumors about a Ferrari SUV (which the bean counter always managed to publicly ward off in the past), I have decided to create a thread in this community about HOW WE COULD STOP HIM.

    Enough is enough.

I know there are hundreds of you out there who had understood the subtle and disgraceful plan this man is nurturing since the beginning about transforming Ferrari in a cash cow for FCA group and, above all, for his pockets.
He is transforming a myth in a car manufacturer like Porsche.
He is a ruthless cheater who has been playing us around since he put his hands on Ferrari.
    Just a few examples:
    - making the "crowd" believe Montezemolo was fired because the results in F1
    - hiding the real reason of Ferrari listing (downsizing debts of FCA)
    - cheating in the IPO prospectus (production cap will be far above 9.000)
    - stepping into non-traditional Ferrari segments like SUV (although this was always deceptively denied)

As one of our member, Tifoso48, wisely wrote a couple of years ago in this forum:
"folks like Marchionne are not really concerned about the long term - their horizon is much shorter because they will have moved on and will not be around when the chickens come home to roost. Worst of all, they are so incredibly smart that they always find a way of rationalizing why an asinine decision really was for the greater good."

In addition, we are all witnessing the "americanization" of the new models in terms of design (ex. TDF, 812 SF) and the newly announced trend of producing downsized engine models to favor the "less performance demanding" customers (= again another of his smart (raving) formulas to mean "profit, profit, profit" and what will be the brand in ten years it's not my business...).

    What do you think?
What can we do to fight him?

Please help me to spread the voice and make a list of possible actions we can do!

    Svito

The only way to fight him is to buy up $1B in shares and vote him out.

But I'm not buying any Ferrari that does not have a manual tranny anyway, so in effect, I'm already in the "don't buy a new model" crowd.

But, if everyone did this, there would be no Ferrari.

Of course this would be the letal weapon but it's impossible to do. Even if all the members of Ferrari chat joined together to boycott a particular model, it would probably not affect the worldwide demand.
In my opinion a possible reaction could be twofold: 1) making a hype across the media (filling up a petition on change.org, creating a facebook page, mass writing to Ferrari public relation office, etc. 2) boycott some institutional Ferrari events or some strategic Ferrari dealer (for a limited time)
Of course these and other similar actions would represent no more than a pressure on FCA and Ferrari shareholders but still would (hopefully) ring some bells within the board of management.

    Ferrari is 'Sunk.'

A Ferrari 'SUV' won't do it, but 100% Electric 'ferrari' WILL.

Maybe along with the suv he'll take another page out of porches book and also make some great drivers cars, soenhtigbn currently lacking at ferrari.

I would rather have some great cars than "myth" and yet another fast Gt car.

theres room fior all tyopes of enthusuats in the ferrari tent.

Frankly if he gets rid of the Luca buying games, makes something more than an easy to drive Luca Gts Ill happily accept a Suv as the price.

Funny how so many paddle lovers say Ferrari is all about performance. if an electric performs way better it then will be built.

Per the Wall Street Journal, Ferrari's racing team generated 420 million [euros] in revenue last year while booking an operating loss of 100 million [euros]

Give Sergio time, he'll pull the plug on Formula 1 too.

    IMHO

And how much value is placed on the exposure from their F1 efforts? TV broadcast time alone must be valued in the $ billions. So, technically a $100 million operating loss, but they received far more dollars in media coverage/exposure for that $100 million.

Ferrari will be forced to make a plug in hybrid because major Euro cities will insist that all new vehicles have pure electric mode when inside their city limits.

I'm no Mr. Sweater fan but its European politics that are driving a lot of where they are going.

The bottom line is that the Ferrari of today isn't what it was 40 years ago and if it is to be around 40 in years future it must change, like it or not. The Ferrari of today will be obsolete in 40 years, probable less, like 10. The same complaint is made every time Ferrari management increases production. Frankly, world production has gone down significantly relative to world demand. I'd love to see Ferrari bring out an SUV and an under $100k sports car, say a Miarri, a cross between something like a Miata and a Ferrari, not unlike what Fiat has done, but better. Think about a turbo 4 Ferrari hybrid in something weighting under 2500 lbs for $75k. It really would not detract at all from the super car market, IMO. Maybe they could even label it Dino. Yep, an SUV and a turbo 4 hybrid Dino. I'm all for it.

It was tongue in cheek. Like Marchionne would pull out of F1 and then start airing Ferrari commercials during the Super Bowl

Two things: Ferrari is a public company. As vacuum cleaner magnate David Oreck once told me, "Decisions made in favor of shareholders are not always in the best interests of customers." Second, Sergio is know to have P-envy (Porsche).

Overreaction. The company, the brand, the product line, etc., are doing what they have always been doing from the very beginning (including when Enzo ran the company). They are evolving. Ferrari has spectacular products which are strongly positioned and marketed. They remain the envy of their competitors and there is no evidence that their position is faultering. Sure, they aren't perfect. Of course you can like Marchione, or not. I love Ferrari. I love the vintage cars and the modern fleet. I have a new car and I also have an '89. I love them both. I don't desire, nor do I want the company to stand still (or go back) in time. I'm sure the 250 crowd thought the company in the 80's was veering off as well. As I see Ferrari today, through the lens of modern times as well as its historical evolution, I don't see much to complain about.

I think this post is spot on.

What you had was basically looting Ferrari of its pristine balance sheet, loading it with debt and selling shares to vulture capitalists. Now the pressure is on for full sharebuybacks and dividends. This means volumes *must* increase to meet the bottom line of incessantly greedy shareholders that had nothing to do with building the company. The usual suspects all took 'stakes' in Ferrari despite never contributing anything to it's success.

This is precisely why America has no more industry. Certain groups loot companies until they are shells of their former selves and then watch them go bust. Then you have guys openly parrot and defend this system.

If private entities are imposing private taxes on industry(interest, excessive dividends, sharebuybacks) thats perfectly acceptable to the American economic model. If government however tries doing it than its socialism!

As a shareholder, I can say every report tells me Ferrari is going the way of (relative) mass market at the cost of brand dilution. I just hope they don't go too far!

It's a product and a company. I can't say I have very much emotional investment either way. I'm not a loyal shopper, I expect company's to earn my business, and frankly, the F dealership experience and general attitude towards customers that it's some sort of privilege for me to spend my money with them, leaves me non-plussed and unlikely that I will buy my next car from them,

I do no doubt your experiences one iota. I wonder, however, how much of this behavior is purposeful 'Scarlett O'Hara' tactics. Human nature often values things that, how should I say 'hard to get.' I've seen it time and again in the dating scene. Not saying it's right or good long-term strategy. Just a thought I've always had.

I can say though that my dealer, which has no incentive to throw perks at me has treated me wonderfully. I've attended enough free parties, drank enough booze, eaten enough food to have paid for all the money I've paid them over the years. Earlier this year, I got to hang out with Edwin Fenech. Heading to Laguna Seca again this Saturday in fact for yet another dealer sponsored event.

The public offering was both the beginning AND the beginning of the end. The course is set and there's no turning back.

Personally - in the context of it being unavoidable, and alongside the inevitable SUV offering - I'd like to see a GTC4 Lusso 2+2 Coupe and Spyder, and an uber-sport-luxury Sedan on that platform. There's no reason Ferrari can't pull off the same successful expansion into other product niches that Porsche has accomplished. And I'm quite sure a Ferrari SUV and Sedan would be more aesthetically pleasing than Porsche's very competent oddities.

I'm sorry I disagree with the premise of this thread. Sergio is doing a fine job representing the shareholders/principal owners interests IMO.
Is he succumbing to the ego's of small portion of the customer base ? answer is no :D
