I wonder what Acura had to pay to snag Penske?

How long can the ACO ignore the manufacturer interest in the DPi formula? With P1 being what it is, I think they should be taking notes.

If they want to go to Le Mans they can race on LMP1-P with the DPI with some modifications:

*They should lower the weight to 830 kg (the Oreca chassis allow this)
*Probably will change the current V6 by the Honda Indy Cars V6 2.2 turbo (HPD thought to race the INDY V6 on the Acura ARX04 LMP1 that never raced) to save weight and have better power under fuel consumption regulations.
*They must modify the suspension to use the Dunlop or Michelin (The Oreca LMP2 already race Dunlop at the WEC)
*And surely some new aerodynamic package.

I agree. IIRC they had four or five MFRs bid on the P2 engine before Gibson got the contract...you would have thought that would have been a clue ;)

And as much as nobody wants to discuss it, Penske is getting on in life, he's 80.

Acura has formally taken the wraps off its new DPi contender, the ARX-05, which will debut in January’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona with Team Penske.

Penske + Acura. This is already a winning combination in my book!

  15. If Comptech could do it twenty-five years ago, Penske should be able to do it now.... ;)

If you saw the appearance of the cars at the sharp end of the grid at Road America, and are familiar with The Captain's penchant for being strack, you would conclude the very same.

  19. Absolutely. 'Been the conclusion for the last 50 years. ;) :)
