Yes. Even better deal would be to look at these cars used after 2 years, 720, Performante, 488 at a fraction of MSRP (Nismo even less), while a used GT2RS most likely $400k plus.
Agreed on the others. Not sure the GT2 RS will be 400k right away. The 997GT2 RS did not really take off in pricing until a year or two ago. I passed on a nice one 2 years ago at 250. But it is true that there are other great cars for the ask of the 2 RS. Even Speciale's are getting close to that. I am supposedly first on my dealers list to get an allocation behind the 918 owers. My S.A. said the 918 owners will likely pass with the new rules for special wishes cars. I am not sure I will take the allocation if I get one.
Those performance figures are pretty crazy...I don't get how Porsche can keep out-doing themselves. I still think the GT2 looks have been declining with each iteration and the 993 still being the best, but it's unbelievable what they can do with the 911 all these years later.
Different times then 7 years ago, people wised up and situations like not that long ago when dealers were begging customers to buy 918s( it took months instead of hours to move the entire allocation) are not happening anymore. These "special" cars take off from the get go....
Some sources say there is no limitation in numbers until the end of the ordering period. So there might be 1000 or 2000 or even more. Depending on the commitment of the customers.
About 8 months production with no set numbers (about 5 cars per day) so 1000 sounds right give or take a hundred. Must sign a letter of commitment not to sell it for at least a year.
The trend is obvious. Each new car (not just the P cars) has more computers, electronics, and nanny controls. 1000 units, at 350K for a car. Would you like to hear about the rock-trick at the deep end of the pool ? After it is no longer the hot new car to have and the jet setters have moved on, it will be common to find 100 cars for sale, with less than 1000 miles on the odo.
I am not impressed also. I would actually buy a speciale. Porsche always makes GT2RS. Speciale is the last one. Also, even if I don't mind turbo, I would get the 720s instead. Looks much better to me. The GT2RS is twice expensive than the .2 GT3, but I honestly don't think it delivers twice the cars. All these RS wings just look so big and ugly. They remind me of these modded Civics and Supras from the 90s.
I got a text yesterday from some broker in Canada He was "graciously" offering me a GT2 RS position for a car $135,000 over MSRP. Is that a real thing? People are willing to shell that out? I told him hell no
There a guy here on fchat offering regular gt3 spot for lots $. Forgot exact amout but in line with what you say. Porsche is having its moment for sure

These times are getting so much faster each record yet cars dont seem to have any real tech advantage over last record holder. Maybe its the drivers who are getting so much faster? Even race drivers experienced on ring would be unfamiliar with street cars there. Now that drivers are used to street cars, they can really push it.
This is classic Porsche. CGT with no driver aids, a whole series of GT2s, all the way back to the 917, these are serious machines for serious people.
You got that right. It's not a car to mess around with around a track and one better have some serious skills (I have a hard enough time with a 500 HP gt3rs and could just imagine what would happen to the car/driver of a gt2rs if it's in the wrong hands).
Congrats! http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2017/09/27/2018-porsche-911-gt2-rs-sets-record-6-47-3-nurburgring-lap-time.html
Very impressive...I wonder what the limit really is on street tires. This is incredible and really shows that a rear-engine car isn't at a disadvantage to mid-engine. Still not as attractive as previous generation GT2s tho imo.
Not surprised and yeah, I guess the whole huge disadvantage claim with the engine in the rear, doesn't really pan out. What's Ferrari's fastest time? And is there a updated list of the quickest cars EDIT: found list and good to see it destroy the lambo and the viper acr
I'm guessing you found this wikipedia list, too. It's the first place I looked and it looks fairly accurate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times#Lap_times Speaking of Porsches and laptimes...I was looking up the fastest times ever at LeMans yesterday and Porsche still holds that record with the 917k in 1971. Granted, the track layout is different without the chicanes of the Mulsanne straight (among other changes) and the 2017 Toyota TS050 is less than a second slower with chicanes, but still...impressive from Porsche almost 50 years ago.
doesnt the car come with mpsc2 street tires? or do you mean theoretical limit of street tires in general? where does this lap time compare to actual race cars?
I meant the limit of street tires in general, but I know tire technology is always improving so the limit is dynamic. The "full" lap of the ring is 20.832 km, but that's only able to be done if the course is closed off to everyone. The 20.6 km course (that the production cars use), has 200m cut off to allow cars to enter and exit. The 20.832 km record was set in 1983 by a Porsche (no surprise) 956 at 6:11.13. There are a lot of different length layouts so it is hard to compare.
how does it compare to current cup car? 997? 996? i bet it can keep up with the older ones which is pretty crazy
