Good call, even if Lewis goes on to win a few more WDC there will still be the usual suspects in denial
Winning in a dominant car, against teammate hampered by team orders, will never change the fact that the guy is simply a fast driver. He has none of the charisma, charm or otherworldly skill of schumi, senna, or the rest, and off track is best described as a witless fool. With 20 races a year, 250% points for each race, and near-total reliability, he's bound to beat race win, pole, points etc records, so will a lot of people when they get a dominant car like he's had for three years (and this year it just happens to be only a little quicker than the ferrari, not dominating)
Welcome back! Good to see you on the board again! You were quite prescient with your questions, for certain.
Not really that bold of a prediction at the time of posting considering he should have won his rookie year and was in the best car at the time. Then the Merc years roll around and he gets to drive the most dominant car in F1 history for 3 years in a row. Hence your stats. Now he is in another WDC capable car, which he has had nearly every year of his 10 year career.
Except Lebron has had to carry the teams he has been on and Lewis has been on the best team, including the most dominant car/engine combination ever in F1 with Mercedes in the current turbo era.
Everybody thought he was nuts going to the midfield MB team. Part of becoming a WDC is know what team to pick. Something Lewis/Prost are brilliant at and the likes of Alonso/Alesi less so
Lewis didn't change F1, at least not in a completely positive way. He broke the color barrier and drove his entire career for two great teams on the top of their games. But he didn't change the sport one bit.
Sorry not even close, Heat did not have Ross Brawn and Schumacher developing a car that anyone could have driven to the championship. Lewis is really good but he has never carried the team only driven the best car well.
Drivers dont develop anything, engineers do. Michael had a good team around him in the Ferrari days, just as Lewis has with Mercedes now.
True, the driver can just report how the car actually feels on the track with differing set ups etc. Welcome back....
Yah no. Sorry but the engineering on paper often needs tweaking based on driver feedback and driving style. Whether that be on the sim or track, the driver is essential to developing the car.
With the limitation on testing, the driver feedback must be far less than in the past, and I cannot see how he participates anymore in developing the car. Schumacher, for example, used to test days in, days out during the inter-season at Ferrari's private track at Fiorano. He could test new parts, new set up, make evaluations and reports to the technicians before the car was signed off. Other teams had their private test sessions too during the winter. This is not possible anymore, so I think that the role of the driver is less than it was in developing the car. In fact, a driver has only a few hours of official testing before the season starts, where he has to adapt to his car, which by then beyond major changes.
It is fair to say that the driver development is not as important today as it used to be, especially for Lewis and Toto Wolff has said before Lewis is not much help for development and feed back, he just gets in and drives. Michael was integral in Ferrari's return to greatness and his testing and development was critical in getting Ferrari back on track in the 1990s, to say otherwise is just untrue.
Absolutely spot on. Without Michael, ferrari was in a very bad place, he signed on with the right people around him to bring ferrari back to greatness, winning in his first season in a car with the handling capability of a bathtub full of water, and worked tirelessly with the goal to win the championship with, and for, Ferrari. Elton wouldn't have a clue what to do to develop a car, he can't even be bothered to use the simulator to learn a new track, as if he is going to to 200 laps of a test track to evaluate a new barge board? Come on, pull the other one, it's got bells on it
Schumacher and Hamilton raced in different eras and under different testing rules. Therefore it's pointless, IMO, to try to compare them or say that one was better, or the other would be unable to match him. THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT. Period. I know that you have a personal grudge against Hamilton, but your posts are becoming rather tiresome. I don't like the guy either, but you are completely obsessed by him!
Just explaining the facts, and toto Wolff seems to agree that elton has no input on the car itself either. Even in these no testing times, vettel for one has a great deal of influence (such as being the only driver to go to Pirelli to tyre test etc)
It's all about leadership!!!! Lebron James carries the team for the Cleveland Cavaliers but lacks the leadership qualities. Not like Michael Jordan back in the 90's who got in Pippens face from time to time to up his game... Lewis lacks these leadership qualities. He does his social media routine while his mentality is one of " Alright chaps, call me when the car is dialed in." Vettel has those leadership qualities. He gets his whole crew together and puts in the time to get his car dialed in to make it better and faster. Even doing "wastless" practices according to a "GOAT" AND visits factory/factories to see how things work relative to changes in those components.
