Am I right in saying that the aforementioned black Enzo was built from the remains of the red Enzo that crashed on PCH in 2006?

It seems so. More than likely just the Serial No. itself was the only item appropriated for the (re)build. Stefan Eriksson did own a second Euro Enzo #137331 (Black/Black), which was eventually seized by U.S. authorities no long after he crashed his Red Euro Enzo #135564 in Malibu.

I wonder if a potential US buyer of this Euro-spec Enzo could tout its historical significance in an attempt to import it under Show or Display post-auction? :D

In actual truth, conventionally legalizing (i.e. on a non-Show or Display basis) a 2003 or 2004 Euro is not that huge of an undertaking. In fact most the work required is on the EPA side, which, as you know, would also be required if one were to import a Euro Enzo as a Show or Display entry. Show or Display only exempts a given grey market car from the DOT safety requirements, not the EPA-mandated emissions items.

I remember you imported a Euro Enzo. What was you experience regarding the difficulties/challenges of EPA/DOT compliance? Was the EPA undertaking more onerous than the DOT work?

Awesome to see this car turned up. Looks like a metallic black and I'm surprised that it's customized, if Ferrari really did rebuild it themselves. Personally I'm more captivated by a all original enzo, color and all. But certainly this car has a unique value to it.

What I really want to know is if there are parts from the wreck in that new car. The owners manual looks a bit worn, at the least maybe that was salvaged from the wreck...

    Customizations I Notice:
    -Carbon Fiber Mirrors
    -Carbon Fiber Rear Hood
    -Enzo Ferrari Hood badge
    -Alpine Stereo
-Carbon fiber wheel badges with red nuts
    -Magnesium colored wheels
    -Power windows
-Did they really put a CD changer in it?!

Again I would have been more excited by an all original enzo rebuild maybe painted in an OEM color other than the original Rosso to prevent the car from being cursed lol...black yellow or silver...

This is cool.... look at the scars in the metal next to the right rivet, that must be from removing the vin plate from the wreck. At least that's one thing that we know made it to the new car...

Although, does "98/14" on the top left possibly mean a 2014 build?

Came across this thread, reminded me how a good friend of my father was doing business with Eriksson at the time. Remember when he told me about the crash and the story around it. Funny thing is, I met Trevor Kearney during this year's Gumball. Didn't know he was involved. Small world...

First order of business would be to clean the dashboard where Mr Todt has scribbled.

Lol, there would have been bits of that car thrown everywhere on the PCH.

I remember a huge high speed car accident that happened here back in early 2000.

Parts of that particular car are still scattered around the place. A lot of people raided parts off the burnt wreck before it was taken away.

And this was just a crappy old locally built car.

My guess is that there is much, much more to this story.

I will even go as far as surmising that the VIN being from a wrecked Enzo was just a convenient way to make yet another Enzo without adding to the double-digit numbers of Enzo's produced over and above the official Enzo total.

On another forum, some are suggesting that the wreck was still in police custody around the time that this same-VIN Enzo first appeared. If this is proven...then the black Enzo is a new car, and the wreck...was not used in any material way in the construction of the new black Enzo. If the above hypothesis is correct...this may cause quite a ripple effect.

    Thoughts?

I know that is not true. As I said earlier I know one of the people involved in transporting the car from police custody back to Maranello.

Ask them if they have black helicopters hovering over their house or if Elvis is working at their local 7-11? Sheesh, are people so stupid that they need to create a conspiracy around everything?

I am sure it left before the cars were off the field at Pebble Beach of that year. How long does air freight take? 3 or 4 days door to door?

I read an article that said it sold for $1.75m. Can that be right?
