I'd be very interested to see pics of 17503 and 28977 some time - I don't believe they've been shown on this forum but could have missed them.

The original concept was much better in the chronological sense, the new method is higgledy piggledy if you want to see where yours and other like cars compare.
Can it be changed/modified to suit?

It's a spreadsheet so can be downloaded, sorted, imported and interrogated.

The input order doesn't matter here.

I didn't really stop to think that maybe the original method of updating the list by reposting within the thread may be preferable.

Sorry if I've been a bit over eager here - I just felt the spreadsheet was a more efficient solution. This is a forum so it's only right that we all decide which way to proceed with this.

If we use the spreadsheet idea the information can grow whereas a thread can't but I'm happy to go either way.

You download the spreadsheet and then sort on any columm ( so you can order it by chassis number, colour or whatever other data you want to arrange )

If preferable, the columns can easily be changed to show model by type, e.g.
    365
    365 Convertible

    400GT
    400GT Convertible
    400A
    400A Convertible

    400iGT
    400iGT Convertible
    400iA
    400iA Convertible

    412GT
    412GT Convertible
    412A
    412A Convertible

But then where do you stop ? With convertibles there's the builder to consider (stramman etc) so the number of columns for each model would increase. Then there's additional info such as on the road, under restoration, modified, notes etc. to consider. Also, we should add a column for our FChat username.

I just quickly knocked something very basic up to see if everyone likes the idea. If we all remember our row number (first column on the left) columns can be added and we all know where to find ourselves in the list to modify our own record.

As I said, someone who actually knows what they're doing could no doubt improve this no end.

That's possible but (like this forum) this needs to be hosted on a server somewhere and a text only spreadsheet takes up bugger all storage space - storing photos can take up a lot of space and as that's already being done on the forum it doesn't seem neccessary really BUT I've added a couple of columns.

    Column A:
This is now an incremental "Entry Number" - I've added sequential numbers for the entries that are already there but if everyone from now on inputs the next number in sequence when they add a new vehicle it allows the speadsheet to be sorted by any or selected fields for analysis purposes and then returned back to the sequential, original input order. This won't work without column "A" being filled in.

For example, if you move the cursor to the letter "F" above "VIN", a small arrow appears next to the "F" - click on the arrow and a drop down appears with various options inc. "Sort A-Z" (lowest number first) or "Sort Z-A" (highest number first) so the spreadsheet can be sorted by VIN number. This will change the order for everyone so the order of column "A" will change whereas the far leftmost column (to the left of column "A") will always remain in sequence as this is the line number within the sheet. To revert back to "Entry Number" order simply sort column "A" into A-Z order - this should ALWAYS be done and then go to the last entry before adding a new entry or the person entering won't know the highest number already used.

If anyone wants to interogate the data I suggest they click "File" (below the 365 of the text "365-400-400i-412") and then "Download" and save the sheet onto your own pc in the format of your choice - that way you're playing with an off-line version stored solely on your own pc and it won't have an affect on anyone else.

    Column M:
This is now for your F-Chat username - not everyone fills in their actual name on F-Chat or where they are (I've never exactly understood why but hey ho) but everyone has a username on the forum.

    Column N:
This is now for a link to your F-Chat profile page. Again, not everyone is subscribed or bothers to put stuff on this but if we all do, from the spreadsheet we can open up the F-Chat profile page for any member we're interested in. To addyour own profile page link, open your profile page on F-Chat and the address bar in the browser will display the path to your profile page. Highlight the text in the address bar, copy it and then paste it into column N in your record in the database. If your a paid up subscriber you can create albums on F-Chat with pix of your cars so in this way we use F-Chat resources for photos and the database can stay simple text.

If anyone wants me to do any of this for them let me know your username (not password - that's not required) by email to [email protected] (not by PM) please.

This entire online spreadsheet concept isn't a brilliant solution but it's cheap and gives some flexibility straight away. I can find someone to do this properly if we decide it's a good idea but there would be a cost to do it, albeit minimal.

Again. the link to the spreadsheet is:

Photos may make for an unwieldy file. A field for notes such as original color, sbc transplant, whatever would be helpful.

I'd considered that but am unsure if entering too much text would cause a display or screen size issue. I'll add a "Notes" field but suggest that it's kept brief. Bear in mind that your F-Chat profile page can contain some of this info which is why I put the link field in.

    Good day All,

One should really password protect the ability to edit the the online file's data... and perhaps limit full access to a limited number of people. I say this, as anyone (lurkers, hackers, etc) could mess with the data contents just to create problems... and then we would have to reenter the data, etc. Sadly, there some that simply like to create havoc...

    Cheers,

    Sam
