I just got the PR release from RM today. It's difficult to imagine many cars that have had such a legendary driver history as this one.

Wow, what a beautiful, important and rare V12 car from the grandest era. That and the DB4GT Zagato (estimate $15 million or more) are either going to sell for huge money or not sell at all...............

RM are dominating the market at the moment :)

Barchetta.cc says that 290MM chassis 0616 is the Davies' car.

They note the current owner of this one as Ronald Stern since 2004.

I think it lasted all of 5 minutes and he might have decided some things were better left to private discussions than a public forum and removed it himself.

No slight on the car for anyone who missed it btw.

I agree with the sentiment he expressed. But there is no trace of a post as in "post deleted by".

    Hmmmmm.....

He deleted it himself. As a moderator, I can still see it and it's nothing shocking or of any particular interest. No "mystery" here.

Don't know why you can't see it. This is how it should appear to non-moderator users:

I know, but it doesn't, at least not on my screen. That's what was puzzling, not the content.

Yeah, odd, but the moderators have been noticing a lot of strange little glitches in Vbulletin lately. I suppose this is another one to add to the list.

Here's another one for you, then: the attachment in your post above did not appear the first couple of times I viewed it.

    (Perhaps you added it later.)

As an aside, but Ferrari related though a little off topic, so apologies in advance.

I was going to consign a 1:10th scale scratch built model by Michele Conti of this exact car in the exact color scheme, but the problem for me was, and still is that RM insists that all automobilia in their sales must be consigned with NO reserve. For obvious reasons that IS a major risk issue for many individuals. Sooooo, I sold it directly to a client who also happens to be a major RM client, who also knows the car is in this sale. If I had been allowed to have a reserve (which would have been a reasonable and realistic figure) the model would have been consigned, and quite possibly sold for much more that I sold it for privately. There are other issues too, but I don't want to get into a negative spiral here.

You may have noticed that almost all auction companies, not just RM Sotheby's, accept automobilia items (incl. models) at NO reserve only. That 's industry standard.

It is interesting that the effort has been taken to reproduce the Mille Miglia race number markings of 0626 on the car, but not the trouble to place them in the correct position as in the historic photos.

Not just that, the fonts are also wrong. Happens all the time.

Yes, seen far too often, even when period photos are widely published and readily available. Go figure.

Yes Marcel, but...... I've been buying and selling models with auction companies since the about 1990, and at least a good number of them still do accept automobilia with reserves; granted that some companies may have changed policy, but certainly not all. So I'm not quite in agreement about it being industry standard.
