I do agree about how great they are with mods. I rebuilt my 1978 with ceramic coatings on the pistons, shaved some off the heads to increase static off boost compression by half a point, steel studs, went with S/C cam profile, port matched, balanced all of the rotating mass, custom valve job & titanium valve spring keepers, euro fuel head, light flywheel, GHL headers & dual out muffler. 1.1 bar boost on the K27 11/11 made 441 HP back when that was a big number. Car was sublime.

Then built my 1991 C2T the same way only making minor changes to the set-up and then producing just under 500 dynoed HP.

But the thing I want to say is that when driving my original 1979 today ~ it still is super enjoyable in its own way. JUST AS enjoyable at that - knowing that I am piloting an icon just the way it was when new. There is something to be said for both sides I think.

Probably best to have one original & one modded.

Rich, interesting to note the silver center Porsche Hub Caps on the Alex 930 and that Neufeld used a RoW 930 configuration in their ad (early Porsche 3.3 photo release?).

Bud - both those ads are from the July 1978 Sears Point Camel GT Challenge race program so the '78's had been around for a while but it is interesting the silver cap mods were already in place in the Alex ad. Neufeld just used one of the factory 3.3 RoW promo photos but one I had not seen before.

That is why the good ones are worth some $$$. Not many unmolested, unwrecked well taken care of turbo's left.

Yup, recently removed 8 from my 930 dealership "voitureltd" although a few had been performance molested by expert molesters, now that I have pretty much retired from active buying/selling. .

Wow Tony! Was it hard to decide which ones to sell? I see you no longer have the silver 3.0 hot rod which i know you really liked driving. At least you kept my fav begin the Andretti car.

    Kudos Rich!

This picture is from when 9309800442 was for sale on ebay a month ago. Concours PRESERVATION CLASS.

There is a photo in the most recent sales listing showing yellow markings on the front fuse box that were not in the ebay photos. Must have taken an EE to clean up that tangle.

Alas, no longer a Preservation Class entry, a month later 9309800442 would have to be classified RESTORATION CLASS.

    Caveat emptor.

Hope these photos will be with it when on the lawn of concours or when offered for sale if restored. There are some cars that should just be left to further deteriorate. In Excellence no less. Most junk yards would be ashamed to offer such a car for sale.
    $48.5K??
Maybe all the reusable good parts left would net 1/2 of that after time and effort to sell.

Wonder if State Farm's "Junk Only" Title stays with the VIN forever, even if the car is restored.

I am sure it will be very soon that Longstone, Coker or others will begin to reissue period correct tires (probably P7 on this car) But until then I feel a jolt of dissonance when I see modern tread on early turbos. I get the same feeling looking at interiors with the incorrect radio... everything looks great then blam, some aftermarket Alpine/Pioneer/Sony...

The 1977 Vasek Polak Racing Catalog advertised RSR and 934 brake disc kits for $250. Porsche introduced these same floating rotor discs (originally fitted on Porsche 917s) on the 1978 930 Turbos with originals being identified by an alternating 3 and 4 hole pattern. There are probably very few 1978/1979 930’s that still have their originals discs installed with many even being converted to one-piece hat designs.

I wonder if there are any 78/79 930s on here still using floating rotors?
