Looks like a stunning car. Any predictions? 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet by Pinin Farina | Amelia Island 2015 | RM AUCTIONS
The best bits of a california and a series 1 pininfarina Spider along with a 4 litre V12 rated at 340 bhp makes for an amazing car. Still it isnt a california, maybe 7 million?
I don't think it will make anywhere near $7m. I think $4-5m is a good result. In may RM is selling another 400 SA but will closed headlights in black - a much more attractive car in my opinion. Many buyers will wait for that one.
Amen! Verde Bottiglia. My favorite color on a Ferrari by a good margin. It'd look great on some modern metal, for sure.
Classic Coach does amazing work, so the car should be top notch. Did Ferrari really coax another 40hp out of the 400SA engine versus the same displacement 330 engine?
Funny you mentioned the hp rating. I was re-reading an older Forza article on restoring a 330 GTC. Patrick Otis engine expert rebuilt the motor to original spec. Even after careful balancing, line bore and all the expertise they are famous for the engine dyno'd at 256 hp. Their quote was that this was to be expected from the 330 as Ferrari was a bit optimistic in their hp claims. So long answer is probably yes......more hp. The 400 SA does have bigger throat carbs than the type 209. But probably not the claimed 340 hp. But only the dyno knows for sure
The standards used to measure horse power ratings have changed several times over the years. Some time in approximately the early seventies they made a significant change. As a rough rule of thumb if you multiply the horsepower rating (pre ~1973) by 0.76 you will get the horsepower reading you would see today if you tested the same motor. Again this is a rule of thumb, but I have found in general it is a very good conversion factor. Cheers Jim
