Practice time of 3m.21.4s which would have placed it 21st on the grid. Motoring News reported as follows: "The P2 Ferrari had a dreadful misfire, and it smelt as though the alleged 3 litre LM
engine was passing neat petrol through the exhaust ports; it wasn't at all competitive, anyway, and did not start the race."
And Patrick McNally in Autosport wrote: "The only Ferrari prototype to appear was Antonio Finiguerra's P2 which had P4 bodywork and was said to have a 275LM engine stroked down to 3 litres - virtually the old 2993cc GTO power unit with single cam on each bank."
Another source, Racing Sports Cars - Home Page, says it was a DNS due to a fire in practice.
The car was certainly entered in Group 6, 2 to 3 Litre Class.
Car pictured in 1000 KM Monza by Andrea Curami.

    1982 - Fabrizio Violati
    1982-87 - Rebuilt by Allegretti, I & Diena & Silingardi, Modena, Italy

the car looks like a weird blend between a P2 and a P3. Can't say that I like it.

Apparently it had the 330 P3 (presumably Drogo)-body when it crashed at Imola in 1981. Was it rebuilt exactly like that?

I doubt VAT is payable on the £15m price to anyone buying the car to keep it in the EU?

I noticed that all cars coming from Violati collection in the catalogues had the mention that VAT would have to be paid if they stay in the EU. In fact, and I just checked, San Marino is not part of the European Union, so a car exported from there would have to pay VAT to remain in the EU as the cars were clearly owned by a San Marino entity ( and may be registered there?).

Ok thanks. As the car is historic (etc) no import tax is due and the vat rate is 5% in the UK. Not sure for other territories.

And once registered in the UK, it would then have free circulation/tax-paid status within the whole of the EU.

Oh ha ha, I could always get Ferrari classiche to build me a replica of something ala 0818, 5899 or any number of cars and make it a matching pair. Touche, perhaps but likely to be true.

Owning a partly home built replica of a 250 California I can safely say, go for it and live with it.I make no effort to conceal what my car is and it still is a challenge to drive and a treat to look at. Don't worry I have heard all the derogatory comments.Actually about the best I can hope for is"Oh it's a Ferris Bueller car" Well I don't have $9-$11 million in the bank and it was an interesting project to build. But trust me if Classiche or any one of those and often very good, repro shops build you one it won't be cheap and i will never be part of a "matching pair". tongascrew
