Why? What did I miss? Haven't read much at all about the Tudor race other than the new Ligier was on pole. BHW
it was a great race! Porsche needs to figure out the missing ingredients, they've come close only to lose out at the end a few times (including potentially at LM24) racing at night in the rain= awesome.
I drove down there early Saturday Morning arriving before 9am or so, parked over by turn 12 & took the tram to the gate, lots of walking but this was an awesome event I've been looking forward to for awhile. My main regret was not staying for the entire event, I left around 7:30pm after the downpour & the race was stopped. At that point I was soaked, exhausted, left like my legs were about to give out so thought it was best to get drive back to Fort Worth. I took over 600 photos but here's a few, enjoy. That's Fchat member & current DFW FCA president Chewys5 / Shawn Richard with his girlfriend Alicia. Sorry I y'all but I did however see Alan Leach "Big Tex" & spoke to him briefly before the start of the WEC race.
Yeah, I took hundreds of pics but have been so busy since the race I haven't had a chance to look at even one to see what I have. I'll go through them in the next few days and and post here when I'm done. First time shooting at night. Pretty tricky for an untrained amateur. Lots of experimentation.
since you're the resident expert, any insight on crowd size? it seemed to me that a) the Saturday crowd this year was slightly ahead of the Saturday crowd last year (which was ALMS only-WEC ran Sunday) and b) a LOT of people headed for the gates once that big storm hit in the middle of the WEC race.
How much of each race was under yellow? I go to RA each year; this year over 50% of the, uh, 'race' was yellow. I'm losing interest. I like racing.
Great race. I happened to be in the suite right over the pits as the rain started. It was epic to watch as the cars hauled arse in, and got on rain tires. The rain was so abrupt, EVERYONE was coming in at once.
IMSA race had one yellow, that lasted just 3 laps! (plus the lap of yellow from the aborted start) WEC race had no yellows, just the red flag (although they did a few laps behind the SC before letting the race restart, to verify conditions)
you can bet teams of aerodynamicists from Audi, Porsche and Toyota are pouring over the videos of the rooster tails from the other cars, trying to sort out their tricks
here's the (slightly condensed) race broadcast, including amateurish starts 1 and 2. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYm5C_0MR3U]2014 Lone Star Le Mans Race Broadcast - YouTube[/ame]
Thrsday was actually FREE all areas access IF you held a Friday ticket in your hand..... Sorry guys I have been CRAZY busy working so I was not able to feed the info to you here like I normally would. As usual, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times...I have tons of pics and will post soon to whatever thread the action photos fit in... 6' 4" blonde, in the Broken Spoke Thursday night, I tried to get her out Friday but not joy.....
A Mod can hopefully fix these DAMN iPhone pictures! I am going to start using my Nikon D60....wtf!!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's our baby, raised her from a girl to a woman (they grow up anyway of course).... She was a Grid Girl for three years, took a break to study in Hawaii, and now, she works directly for FIA WEC!! Some promotion!
Bye, see ya tomorrow! This is one of the TOP COTA Volunteers, he's always shuttling Golf Carts, refilling the Track Guides in the Suites, helping little old ladies across the street.... What a guy!! He does sometimes make off with one of the girls, when no one is looking. Some thoughts on COTA tomorrow. I really need to go on staff there for awhile, before they go out of business. Tons of mistakes made, handling ticketed fans...unbelievable, some of them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would agree except that COTA is a big place, and the ground transport from the wreck scene TO the helipad, is going to be the longest period, air time back to town will be quick!! The tracks inner roads are a constant zoo, golf carts and service vehicles flying around, the Paddock control is iffy, pedestrians everywhere with no painted safety crosswalks in many locations. I notice these things, it still is not finished, really. And some of the original contract work is starting to look a little shaky. Shoddy hand rail welds, in the Grandstands.....paving lifting up....standing water where it should be draining...when you build in a hurry, over time, it shows....
Drivers are criticizing the timing of the red flag in the wec race. Seemed to wait much too long before it was stopped or a flag was even thrown.
