I recently gave my garage a makeover and am extremely happy with the results. I had EncoreGarage do the floors and cabinets, I then added a pair of BendPak HD9 lifts. I also added two thermostatically controlled heating units to maintain 55 degrees in the winter. This turned my garage from a nasty, dirty and disorganized place I detested into a clean organized place I love to be in. With tunes piped in and a few cold beers I can happily spend an afternoon rebuilding carbs or whatnot.

I highly recommend both EncoreGarage and BendPak lifts.

This pic is a re post and I haven't taken good pics as car is in the shop getting a few minor things done. I'll post on 308 VR thread as soon as it's back.

Here is something I did which might be useful for some of the members here. I have a small, motley collection of old cars and so have spare parts bins for each of them. Rather than use labels on the cabinets to remind me where things are, I used reproduction chassis plates and riveted them on.

Matty, my garage has the same depth (7 meters) as you plan. I used 3 meters per space, and this allows car doors to open without hitting the other car. I used about 4 meters for the workshop area, where I have the tool cabinets and a two-post lift.

The photo below will give you an idea of how a three-meter spacing will look. Note I have small cars. What I wanted was to be able to get into any car easily and use it without having to move another car. I was also wanted to be able to detail or do small work on the cars in situ, with heavy work being relegated to the workshop area.

If you have the space, what would be good is to have a separate garage for the non-hobby cars. Ideally also, space permitting, the workshop area should be separate, or can be separated by a divider, from the parking area. That keeps the workshop clutter away from the parked cars.

Good luck. It's great fun to plan a garage. (Be sure to pipe in air lines!)

Exactly my thoughts, but 12 deep would be better for storage etc... you can't go big enough

That's an issue with epoxy and why I won't do it in the garage I'm building. Your garage isn't too large, so tile may be a very nice option instead of spending the time and headache of epoxy again. Just a thought.

This is an unsealed hybrid type. We did not want to seal it as the slipperiness might be an issue. After a 3x broken back, 2x broken pelvis, and 13+ broken ribs, my 39 year old body can't take much more so I had to err on the side of caution. If you seal it, it will last for many, many years.

My garage guy said he would happily come back and redo the floor free of charge but as I said, I think I'll do two lifts. I'll put the F40 and the Challenge car on the top on and the 1967 911 Hot Rod and 550 Maranello below.

I've never heard of sealing epoxy. 100% solids does not need sealing but yes it can be very slippery. Also, epoxy will yellow if exposed to sun so most do a urethane top coat. Aluminum oxide can be added to add friction but then it reduces the ability to clean the floor as well.

Our new shop floor is very smooth but not to slippery. Photo of grill taken on floor.

Wow. You've been through a lot. What was your profession?
In regards to it being slippery, I've heard that a small amount sand, aluminum oxide, can be added to give it some grit.

Many thanks, Charles. Actually, it is just a plain, white shoebox, but you would be welcome. I nap there sometimes.

And, sometimes, my friends nap there, too.

That’s Louie, napping after a brunch at home with some car friends. Louie was a big racer and campaigned modified sports cars in the region up to the 1980s. Until recently, he raced a Lola T70 in the friendly local historic series. He drives a 365 GTB Boxer. Louie ’s almost 80 and still very quick (I can't catch him on the track), but a nap is sometmes irresistible.

Thanks, Mitchell. I'm away now, and so can't photograph. But here is a not-to-scale drawing that may help you understand. The sports cars are all in a row that can take five cars plus one in the workshop. The plan is an "L," and a separate garage for two everyday cars is in the short length.

I will try to post a photo I have in the computer that will show the interior. You will see that from the drawing that the garage is actually quite simple and plain. I am afraid the cars also pale in comparison with the magnificent ones here.

    Best regards,

    Andy
