Scud/16M fronts are 8 inches wide, but I see a lot of Scud type wheels advertised that are 7.5. The 7.5's seem easier to come by. I'm looking for a second set of wheels for the track on the 16M. Should I really try to find another set of 8's for the front? I'm just trying to understand the pros/cons of the two setups. If I end up with one set of 7.5 and one set with 8, which setup for the track? I am assuming I would use the 7.5 with 235/35/19 for street with 285's on the rear. Then use 255/30/19 on the 8's for the track and go with a 305's on the rear for better balance. Any other suggestions?
what about 245/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear Pirelli Trofeo R on oem wheels for Scuderia? Do I still need spacers?
Everybody knows recommended minimum wheel width for 305/30 19 MPSS tires is 10.5", correct? Using them on 10" wheels will introduce some tread instability, just like the wider tires on the front 7.5" Scud/16M look-alikes. Why not 295/30 19s with the suitably shorter front tires so ABS/stability control is happy.
yes you havea point there the tires a bit wider for the oem 10" wheel... but the overall diameter is also shorter by .5" from the stock size 285/35/19... so I think it will compromise if you install it, it might bulge a little bit but not too much bec of the undersize of .5" At first I was thinking of the 295/30 trofeo r... but its .8" undersize already, thats almost an inch smaller diameter than stock. I will also need to lower the car bec of the fender gap between the undersized tire.
Darth- You missed the message. Does not have anything to do with the reduced height of the tire and that affects nothing regarding wheel width recommendations. Michelin's minimum recommended wheel width for the specific MPSS in 305/30 19 size is 10.5", and that already takes into account all the tire's dimensions.
yeah I know what youre saying... well I got the 305 tires already so the only thing to do is to try it out. Some scud owners here already did that and they said its fine and performs well.

I have a 360 with 18" stock size RE-11s. Last time at the track I started at 30-32 psi or so, and about 10-12 min. into the session, the tires got so hot I lost traction and almost went off track. So should I be starting at lower pressures? If I do, won't I risk damaging the sidewalls? Or should I get them hot, pull into the pits and bleed pressures half way through the sessions? I don't think they let you do that in the hot pit, do they? (I later tried starting out at 26 psi or so, and it seemed to work better, but is that too low?)
