Im pretty sure if I remember right it is a engine out of a 550 or a 575M. Regaurdless its going to amazing!!! can we know more please Jim
We have now got the engine running in the car and weighed it with all fluids. Rather heavier than I had hoped at 1190kg = 2623lbs but still lighter than all the cars that are being weighed in the curb/kerb weight thread. Power to weight comes out better than the Enzo so I suppose I shouldn't complain. Weight distribution is exactly 50/50 front to rear. More details to follow when it has been tested.
Finally ready for shakedown testing. Wider back wheels and slightly flared arches still to do. I'm off on holiday tomorrow so it will have to wait unfortunately. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They will be rebuilt by Turrino in UK and will fine for road use and wet weather racing/tracking if we keep an eye on them. Cast wheels for the slicks or treaded tyres for dry racing/tracking.
Just done 15 gentle miles on the road and all seems fine. Now the car's out of the workshop it looks like the other design of perspex bubble might look rather better. We need to make another angle strip to join it to the bonnet/hood which when painted reduces the apparent height of the bubble. Here we've laid this version on top of the first one and tooks some pics to give an idea. When it's done I'll post more pics and will be interested to hear opinions. Nice! The first re-bodied 575 I see, apart from the Zagato cars. There's plenty of them around, no need to feel guilty. How much lighter is it than the stock 575? Underbonnet pics?????? Under carriage pics?????
If you think of the first version of size S and the second one as size L then I would go for something in between (M). The second version IMHO is really much too large.
Jack et al - I think the "575" refers only to the motor; not to suggest that the whole car is fabricated from a 575 Maranello.....I believe this car was previously powered by an earlier Ferrari V12....(if I am wrong 246tasman, please correct me!). Tritone
Now it has one - over 2 years later. Merged this thread with some stuff from the past. Now, hopefully, it makes a bit more sense. Shortened 365 GT/4 chassis, originally with a 400 motor, now with a 575. Nothing that belongs in Vintage, however, so I'm taking the whole thing out to the general Ferrari Discussion forum.
I, too, would like more information on this awesome project. So what's the deal with s/n 23457? The engine from 23457 used to be in this GTO Special, or 23457 was used as the basis for the replica? If the former, where is the chassis from 23457, and where is the engine from 23457 now? If the latter, where is the engine from 23457 now? Also, can you tell us the engine number of the 575M that's now in the GTO Special? Do you know the serial number of the 575M Maranello from which the 575M engine came? Lastly, it looks like this GTO Special has a five-speed gearbox. Is that correct? If so, have you mated a five-speed gearbox to the 575M engine? If so, what kind of gearbox? If it's a Ferrari gearbox (i.e., from a Testarossa), can you tell us the gearbox number?
Holy Mackeral- Talk about an Italian hotrod. The stock 575M has 434 ft lbs of torque. Can only imagine what this beast will have. Hope the front end stays on the ground during acceleration. I can hear a lot of "sproings" from wheel spokes. Sure is pretty, though. Taz Terry Phillips
Carbie, which pic are you looking at to determine that it's a 5-speed? The interior shot taken when it still had the 400 motor? If so, the he's already stated that it was a 365 GT4 2+2 tranny that would be taken out and replaced with a 575 transaxle. The rear transaxle in these pics did NOT come from a mid-engined TR: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136877161&postcount=5
I missed his statement about it being a 365 GT/4 transmission; thank you. Since it had a 400 motor, I assume we're talking about a 365 GT/4 2+2 (and not a 365 GT4/BB), right? So, yeah, I guess I'm looking for all of the numbers on all of the equipment, and the numbers from all of the cars from which all of the equipment was mined. I wouldn't know a rear transaxle if you slapped me with it. In fact, I'm confused as to why you linked me to a picture of the engine in the front of the car while referring to the rear transaxle. Can you tell the type of rear transaxle from that picture?
