Tony Simmons has retired and shop the business down,i would have thought a business like that would have had a serious sale value. great wheels bought my 1st set in 1978 of Mike Abay when he was in North Balwyn. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There was an ad on GraysOnline a few weeks ago for equipment from Simmons Wheels, but it suggested that it was 'excess to requirements' Strictly speaking this is still correct if they are now closed!
You would imagine so, it has equipment and designs and the like... are there any makers of wheels still in Australia since Castalloy fell over with the Ion Ltd implosion?
when i was younger,I often thought with my marketing ability that Simmons wheels would have been a ideal business for me.
I see your mate in the first pic Rob? Ask him in for a cup of tea did we? The problem with the wheels, well, a set of 18" in an off the shlef size for say a 911 was close to $5K. There are enough genuine used ones around and it wasn't far off the price of a set of forged BBS. Added to that the ageing machinery and the death of the Commodore market (A set of 18" at Bob Jane for under a $1,000 from China) and that was that. Regards, Carl.
Carl, can you email me the wheel alignment settings you put on the car when I bought it ? I was adjusting some suspension and think the alignment needs doing thanks
Sure John, 12 PSI all round Front: 1 meter of toe in zero caster 5 degrees of positive camber Rear: 1 meter of toe out 2 degrees of positive camber Put the larger wheels on the front and use Diesel fuel. Love carl xxxxxxxx
ok, that's the current settings so all is well, thanks finding it hard to keep the diesel topped up in the sump and my 6 volt battery keeps dying
It can depend upon how the owner has been running the place for quite a while. If he has a lot of vital information in his head that isn't something that can be transfered easily when the cheque for the business is sold off. Then again you could have someone like my former employer who openly said that the business dies with him. Strange but some guys choose to do this. Yet another reason to quit considering my boss was 70 !
Hi John, I printed out the settings on your car today, can post to you if you like, no access to scanner atm, sorry. Regards, Carl.
