That's true and my 365 doesn't have the stock but the ANSA exhaust which also makes a fair bit of difference of course. I'll post some info of course! Glad to hear your BBi got flogged yesterday!

    Onno,

A truly magnificent purchase and thanks for sharing all your detailed experiences in the Dutch section. It must be a bit difficult for you when just buying this great car and not be able to look at it before going to bed. That is at least what I do…

    Regards, Gert

Corrosion have been take into account in 1979.

Since, on Euro specs versions at least, hp was of 360 hp on carbs til mid 1980 (340 hp fater that), the best years would be 04/1979 ---> 06/1980.

Nothing to be desired, eh? How about a real 365bb with those (stock) headers and a Tubi? Add Webers and an additional 1,000 RPM until redline...and then you really have "nothing to be desired!" LOL!

I have what you dont, torque hehehe....lets not forget no monkey business when I get in a drive it, just all around performance that I can use on the street and retain my drivers license. 1000 rpm more? DO I need that, no im quite easy to please I guess lol. Its a good thing you dont want the original exhaust, if you ever do grab your ankles buddy!

If I want torque and all-round performance I'll jump in the 550... :)

But I see where you're coming from. It's just what you want - easier to live with or maniac? I needed a maniac, like David.

I wanted to post a pic of JazzyO's 365 as an example of the earliest type of clamshell the 365 came with and we can never have too many boxer pics. Someone had posted a question looking for help to ID a 365 vs a 512 BB so ill add some pics here just help anyone else that might have a similar question.

The first pic is of the prototype 365, note no cabin vent slot and it has no engine.
Next is BBi clamshell that you couldnt squeeze another louver into it if you tried.
JazzyO's first version 365 clamshell with NO louvers (for cooling, just air inlet for air boxes) at all, that would change throughout its production run. The 365BB had at least 3 clamshell versions, the carbed 512BB was by itself then the 512BBi was yet another design by itself so 5 different
    lids for the boxers.

Another early rear clamshell and I just noticed the "gts" mod, too bad.

Second pic is a BBi, note spacing between the air box covers, thin louver row up the middle, wide rows at the sides.

Next is a 512BB, note spacing between air box covers again, wide center row, narrow side rows. This places the lids and inlet
lovers over the carb aircleaners. On the injected cars the boxes are over the intake plenums. Once I realized this difference I knew converting an injected car to carbs is an insane mod.

Final pic, carbed and modded 512BB, looks pretty cool.

I noticed a small detail this summer when I had 9 boxers to pour over at the concours in toronto. On BBi's only the console horse mounted on the leather rectangle remains unchanged but the leather varies. My 82 has stitches around the perimeter where as an 84 has none. Same size leather, same horse, stitches and no stitches depending on year. I think 82 is the only year with stitches, 83-84 have none. I only have a pic of mine, anyone with an 84 style feel free to post it.

    That truly is a pity.
For anyone raised in the eras of Ferarri racing with those distinctive manifolds and piping its such a great detail. They've gone to all the trouble but matched the black trim instead.
If mine I'd have to change it to the white. So evocative of the competion F-cars.

Just to clarify - the last pic in that post is not of the 365 that has the painted exhaust. It is #19323, the 3rd last 365BB. The 365BB was never offered with a spoiler on the front valance, that came with the 512BB. #19323 sports a 512BBi front valance (see the little lights in the bumper), presumably because it was exported to the US and that made it easier to conform to regulations. I think they fitted a 365 or 512BB grille afterwards as it covers the fog lights, which is not normal for a 512BBi front. The car is for sale in Paris at the moment (well, for the last 12 months or so), asking price EUR150k, which is clearly too much in this market. I've heard from reliable sources it is in good condition, though.

Thanks for posting the various clamshells, Newman, I'm sure it's quite enlightening for the newbies.

My 84 definitely has the stitching. (Car #51179) Mine is a tan interior like the other; could that be the difference? Murph, what color is your interior?

That's right. With black you can hide all that grime.

These shots show the subtle differences from the 365 to the 512 boxers. Note the clamshell forward verticle line that seperates the cabin from the clamshell. The cabin line was moved forward on the 512 to add material to the forward edge of the clamshell. The cooling duct was added and its so obvious the 365 would have lift with that lower front shape. I love both cars for different reasons. The differences go on and on but those are the more subtle ones. A blind man can see the differences in the rear.

Try to ignore the DOT lamps on the BBi.....yack!

Ah.... sigh! Just lovely, aren't they? Nice to see a 512 with the spinners - they just look SO good on a Boxer.

Onno is right the 365 BB never came with the integrated front spoiler. You see a few that got this mod later in life to deal with the car's ability to lift in the front at high speeds. Here is another pic of a clam. Also a few pictures of the cavallino on the center console. The first picture is from a 1984 512 BBi I used to own, it has a smooth finish with no stitching. The second picture is from my 1981 very early 512 BBi (the fifth injected car made, has only the left electric out side door mirror instead of two like the later injected cars came with) it has stitching around the cavallino. By the way has any one seen the interior combo in this black/tan 1984 512 BBi I used to own. It has Daytona style seats with black inserts as well as black piping. The sun visors are leather with black piping as well. (on my early 1981 512 BBi the sun visors are cloth, the same as the head liner). To this day I have never ran into a BB that has both Daytona style seats with inserts and piping as well.

    Gene.

Thanks Geno, so 81-82 had the perimeter stitching on the cavallino and 83-84 was smooth. Wasnt sure what the 81 had, never seen one in the flesh. As for the spoiler yes I knew they didnt come that way. Part of me likes the look of the 365 from the side without the spoiler and I would live with the lift if I owned one since driving at high speeds here will only get my car impounded (for doing 50kms over the limit). Can you imagine getting pulled over for 50 over and they take your car plus suspend your license for a week and bugger your insurance? That new law slowed me down.
