    What did you build?

Getting some new carpeting this weekend, so I'm cleaning out my playroom, and found some from the 1970's that I use to love!

I'll get around to building them someday...

Oh :) the-good-old-days before video games, MTV, and Ipods

I have a moving box full of unbuilt models, as well as a moving box full of completed models in my attic. I haven't built anything in almost 10 years.

the unbuilt ones are most likely warped from heat and the completed kits are probably broken or need some level of repair due to moving cross-country.

I never cared for the Lindberg kits, but the Monogram/Revell kits are fun and Tamiya a high level of detail.

I used to LOVE building models. I mostly built cars, but also loved the big Boeing 747 planes. As I got older I started building the Tamiya F1 kits, mostly 1:20 scale. A few years ago I went into a hobby shop on a whim and bought a 1:12 kit and had a ball working on it. When my son gets older I'll build models with him.

I did a lot of WW II, but the most fun I ever had was on a Tamiya F1 1:12 Mario Andretti Lotus. They really build Fantastic kits! (Professional photo, mine had fingerprints on it)

I use to love to build models. I made all kinds of stuff from Ferrari to Ford. Ahh the smell of model glue...

I was unlucky I guess, I just had the headache production type. Lemon scent sounds interesting.

I had two or three of those also! Loved the Swamp Scene :)

I heard they were going to re-issue some of those kits. Not sure if it ever got off the ground? But was suppose to be back on the market 6 months ago?

I started out with the Aurora monster models had the complete set of them which my ***** ex wife trashed during the divorce. I then went on to japanese WW II planes in 1/72 scale then 1/35 scale tanks. Lots of fun. I am building a visble woman model with my 8 year old.

I found a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing in a box in the attic last year. It was a pretty good effort for a 12 year old kid - nice silver paint, red interior.

Just kind of a shame the way that somebody had shoehorned in an Oldsmobile V8 complete with a front-mounted GMC blower.

    Scrounged around and found these:

1/72 Revell of Germany S100 Schnellboot (lacking decals and weathering) and a 1/72 Ju-87 Stuka 'Tank Killer' in a winter camo interpretation. The depth charges on the S100 are actually model railroad 55g drums.

These two kits were done in 2005, so I was incorrect in my above posting, with the exception of automobiles, which has been 10 years. All my pricey paints are now either dry or have irremovable caps. :(

The rockets were great. The launchers never worked right, with that little pin key. Always ended up using a fuse and running like hell.

Very funny. Dad and I, couldn't get that key to work either.... tried for an hour.

My dad bought me the "starter kit" at NASA after we took a tour in the 70's.

We finally ended-up pulling the fuse out of a stink bomb, and did the old....light the fuse and run lift-off!

My X-15 went so high and far, we never found it again. One Launch Rocket :(

My best model was a 1/8 scale Jaguar XKE. It had working shocks, windows, steering, and was a blast to build.
Wish I had some pics from back then.

    Great thread topic.

I always had glue on my fingers and a car mag rolled up in my back pocket.
