    Casey,

If you found, bought and built that car yourself, all in half a year, very well done! Where did you find the Lola body and what did the original look like?

    Regards,

I have to agree - given the condition of what you bought, even if you have/had a lot of financial resources to play with, that is very impressive. Vintage racing isn't cheap!

    Hello guys,

Yes, I aquired the car in December '07 as part trade for the 1956 Lotus 11 LeMans that I restored. I did well on the Lotus and the Lola bodied McKee was essentially free. I didn't start working on the car right away, because it looked certain I was moving to Frankfort Germany to race F3 Euro. My investor was real estate and construction based here in the States and due to our "ecomomic climate" he did not fufill his commitment. That was about the time of the Cavalino Ferrari show in late January. It was then that I started working on the Can-Am car restoration, becasue I needed something to race and practicing on my 125cc shifter kart alone was not going to cut it.
While I have some amazing connections and possibilities, I'm just a working guy in Ohio. I am able to vintage race because I restore a car and trade up, again and again. It sure would be nice to have deep pockets, but I do have determination and skill. That is what gets anyone ahead and it is how I was able to put a car in the Can-Am field on less than $18,000. For goodness sake, I barrowed that open trailer from my dad and the tow vehicle was lent to me by a family friend. No one would believe that possible, but I did it. Some people don't believe my F3-F1 possibility, but it is real too.
The bottom line in racing is that it takes money and connections. I may not have the prepositioning of Graham Rahal or Marco Andretti, etc, etc , etc, but I do believe if someone wants something bad enough they will find a way. My attitude is that "you can't keep a good man down".

Ah so there's that old Euro F3 chestnut, I was truly missing it!

Last time I checked, everyone in the F3 categories isn't nearing 30. Not to mention, they usually have at least a year or two in Formula Renault/ BMW and years of karting experience. What's your experience again? Care to provide any references?

You're beating a dead horse, man. We've all heard your whining before..."my investor left me high and dry"..."blah blah blah". You're not special among drivers; every driver has some variation of the money story. In addition to money, though, your story is missing the ladder of success up to F3.

Here's my advice. Just drop this pretense. If you like this site, find the folks in the vintage section or those who like concours; they'll appreciate all the hours and hard work you put into your cars. You'll make friends among those people.

At the end of the day, however, this on-track nonsense in which you participate isn't competition in the slightest and is no path to professional racing, let alone Ferrari Challenge.

If it's of any matter, Casey, you can whine all you want to my friends about "harassment", but this BS of yours is abject harassment to any thinking man's sensibilities.

Agreed. It's great to chase a dream, but it's equally important to be honest about how that dream is progressing. All told, you seem like a fairly interesting guy. You have a lot of different interests that in my opinion classify you more as a "Sportsman" than "Formula 1 Hopeful". I think the reason your story has been met with so much skepticism is because many members on this board are familiar enough with racing and the sacrifices required to forge a career. Talking about it doesn't make it so, and in particular the path to Formula 1 is quite different from what you have been fortunate enough to experience thus far. A lot of members on this site have started out with little or nothing and, through hard work, accomplished a lot with their lives. Brutal honesty would say that you come off as a spoiled rich kid to many of these people. But I believe somewhere in the middle is the realy Casey Putsch. You have a good background, you're educated, mechanically adept and have a zest for life. Embrace those qualities and put the F1 rhetoric on the shelf. So, a belated welcome to FChat! I'd love nothing more than to drop in on some vintage races--a lot of people have such passion for vintage machinery. I have a lot of admiration for those with the dedication, means and know-how to keep these cars "alive" and running for their enjoyment and ours.

ok first thing u are a jackass and the biggest playa hata in history. u are not much of a racer I have never see u on TV. it would be one thing if you were randy post. because randy post is a champion of EVERY RACE KIND.

so if randy post came on here and said "CASEY u need to let the dream of FORUMLA ONE die in ur heart because i have evlauted ur driving on televised vitange specials such as dream car garge and the one with the molester who looks like dustin hofman in 'hook' and after much considerated u have not learned TIME ATTACK PROFESIONALISM" then I think what CASEY would do is to say "randy post has truly englithened my understanding of racing today and from now on I will focus on escorting the hot models". yes this is true.

but when you say that vinatge raceing is not real racing then I HAVE NEWS FOR U.

Juan Pablo Fangio THE 3TH GREATEST RACER OF ALL? what did he drive? the MERCEDES W196 WHICH IS A VINTAGE CAR!!!! HE WON F1 IN A VINATGE CAR!!!!!!!

Mike Hawnthorne? HE WON F1 ON A VINATGE MOTORCYCLE!!!!!!!

even nigel mansell "the lion of uniked kingdom" won F1 in a car which is eleagble for vintage compettion. SO WHY CANT CASEY DO THE SAME DONT YOU SEE THAT HE HAS "There are some people that have an unusual drive and you can see a certain "fire in their eyes". Casey Putsch is no exception to this and races with the same great intensity with which he lives. " THAT IS DIRECTLY FROM FACTS.

when I think of CASEY I say to myself in the futuyre is just as likely to see him driving a late 1920s bentley on the paris to peaking rally or a bellytank car on the salt flats! as it would be to see him cimpeating wheel to whee in a present day formula car!!!!

this is what i think happened. i heard that you were going to get a players f1 test but it happaned like this:

b-mak: hello i am here to test

players f1: wtf dude you are too fat to fit in the car.

b-mak: not if u use butter to put me in

players f1: ok now we have tried butter and you only can put your left leg in

b-mak: i could win a race with just my left leg

players f1: im sorry do you know of any other young american prospects

b-mak: i know of one the best of all but i will delibaretly not tell u because i want to destroy the best chance america has had to win f1 since jim clark

players f1: u mean scott speed

b-mak: no there is someone who has the fire in their eyes and could drive a bellytank racer but i will with hold this information until u let me race

players f1: we would rather go out of bizness than let u race

b-mak: then i will unfold my rage upon u oh hey is that a cheesburger u are not going to eat

    THE END

but i have one final thing to say. there is a driver who is like casey. he never had the competative car. he was let down by his equipmant. his name.

    ROSS BENTLAY

that is right. like casey his f1 car was 2 slo to win so even though he was the best driver on the screaming eagel team even bettar than craig t nelson he could not win in f1.

now he has 8 books. one is even about autocross. WHICH CASEY HAS ALWAYS DOMAINTED.

    thats right.

Yeah, PhaseDance provides so much in the post that you have to read it a few times to get all of the "jewels" of idiocy. Sort of like reading tea leaves! Go back to his first post in this thread, as it is just as good.

    Hey guys,

I'm sorry you missed the point of my last post. I was merely telling the story of how my Can-Am car came to be. It is related to the F3 stuff we all know about.

I posted in this thread because it is about me and what I am doing with racing. It was started by another vintage racer and fellow F-chatter. I am very forthright and honest with what I do, so it seemed prudent to let all of you know from "the horse's mounth" what is going on.

Everything I have written has been honest and factual. If you don't like or believe it, that is fine, but it doesn't change the facts. Whether you admire, are indifferent, or just hate me and what I do, it still doesn't change reality and the fact that I will continue what I am doing and moving up in racing.

One last big point. I have done all this racing and car restoration on my own. I do not have a "well to do" family. I have made this happen with determination, a computer, and my tool box.

I'm glad many of you like my Can-Am car and how I finished it off. The car is scheduled to be at the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles, Horsepower for History Concours d'Elegance, and the FCA Ohio annual meet on August 8th at Mid-Ohio. I will likely go to other events, but those are for certain. See you there!
