The vote that will decide Max Mosley’s fate as FIA president is still too close to call, according to a poll carried out by a British newspaper on Monday.

Mosley faces a vote of confidence in his presidency at an extraordinary general meeting of the governing body’s general assembly tomorrow (Tuesday), which will determine whether he has a mandate to continue in office following lurid newspaper allegations about his private life in March.

And on the eve of the crunch vote in Paris, the Guardian reports it has polled 100 of the 222 FIA member clubs that make up the assembly.

The results showed that 37% wanted Mosley’s 15-year reign to come to an end, 25% would vote for him to remain in office, 9% said they were either undecided or not qualified to take part in the vote, while 29% would not comment.

The newspaper’s findings come after a weekend of further twists in the saga.

Mosley’s long-term friend and ally Bernie Ecclestone publicly stated for the first time that he thought the beleaguered FIA president should quit.

It was revealed last week that Mosley recently rejected leading clubs' recommendations that he agree to step down in November this year in exchange for calling off the vote.

F1 supremo Ecclestone has urged his friend to accept a compromise deal, rather than pursue his stated aim of staying on until the end of his term of office in October 2009.

"He feels that there is still important work to do at the FIA,” Ecclestone told the Daily Telegraph.

"But in my view there is a way to accomplish this and retire at the end of the year at the FIA general assembly in November.
"I would be happy to sit at his side to help him to achieve that."

Translation: That degenerate Nazi thug is too power-drunk to relinquish his office willingly. He will have to be dragged out, kicking and screaming.

My quess is that no matter what the vote, he will refuse to step down. He is complete scum.

Mosley wins confidence vote in Paris

    Tuesday, June 3rd 2008, 10:55 GMT

FIA president Max Mosley has won the vote of confidence at today's General Assembly meeting in Paris.

Following a vote of delegates, Mosley won the majority of support for him to continue in his role.

An FIA press release confirmed that Mosley had won by 103 votes to 55 votes in the meeting. There were seven abstentions and four invalid votes during the secret ballot.

Mosley is not expected to make any comment about his vote of confidence until after the conclusion of the privacy action that he has taken against the News of the World.

    Full statement from the FIA:

    From Autosport website:

"During the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) held in Paris today, the FIA Member Clubs voted on a motion of confidence in the FIA President.

The FIA membership voted as follows:

    For the motion: 103
    Against the motion: 55
    Abstentions: 7
    Invalid votes 4

Voting in the EGA was made by secret ballot. Votes were counted in private by the FIA legal department in the presence of four scrutineers, selected by the EGA from a list of Delegates proposed by the Chairman of the meeting (the President of the FIA Senate).

The entire voting procedure was supervised by an external Huissier de Justice (French state-appointed public witness).

    Paris, 3 June, 2008"

Just goes to show the FIA is a banana republic...what a disgusting result...

What an absurd decision, it questions the global credibility of motorsport's governing body.

Precisely because of ADAC's and many others feelings (most recently the Bahraini Royal Family), aren't the medium to long term implications of this crass decision more incredulity and division, rather than unity and prosperity?...as a lifelong motorsport enthusiast in all its forms, this is NOT good!!!!!!!!!!!!
