Dave, Sorry, Carbon is of course correct. I didn't mention Dinos as the thread title was about 365/400/412s. Apologies for the confusion! Jonathan
Sorry, I thought the 27 were the ones that may have come into the US in the early '70's. Do you know if mine (17143) was one of those 27?
Don't be sorry. Here are the 27 I show: 16293 17143 17167 17189 17267 17291 17443 17475 17487 17503 17505 17651 17667 17675 17803 18037 18215 18231 18331 18359 18369 18497 18639 18759 18791 19065 19179
I have 18231, what is know of the 27? Were they imported in bulk by the same importer and does anyone know roughly when? Sold by? Joe
You bought that from Steve Alderman in Virginia didn't you? They came in one at a time from a variety of importers, not in mass or bulk.
Mine was sold to a semi-known Italian racer and then bought by an antiques dealer in Palm Beach when it was ~9 years old. DOT conversion was done by Wollener (sp?, I'm only 6700 miles away from the car and the paperwork right now or I'd check).
6700? Where the h$ll are you on a weekend? You've got to stop that crap and take the weekends for yourself (says the guy who takes 1 day off every month or so ) Wollener? I know that name from somewhere. Hmmm can't remember right now. Maybe from the ASC or McLaren days.
I'm in Tokyo. Leaving for Germany in the morning, back home Friday around 5:00 PM. I will have next weekend at home (and probably nasty jetlag). Nothing like going around the world in 10 days. Easier going eastbound, westbound usually sucks.
east is a piece of cake, you're right west SUCKS! Travel safe and if you're going into Frankfurt stop by the dutyfree and pick me up another box of those great milk chocolate truffles they sell. MAN! Those are good!
I think I can look for them, need to find room in my bag, stocked up on Japanese Ferrari books yesterday...
West is the Best. Follow the sun for least jetlag. Seriously, at least in my experience. Of course, as soon as you get 12 time zones or more away, you're going to feel it no matter what. John
Yes, bought it from Steve, he was just a flipper on 18231, as it came out of California prior to him, Rick Glover was the guy that re-built the car. I made contact with Rick and got the history as far back as he knew it. Joe
Problem with going west bound is all of the flights leave early morning and get to the destination mid afternoon. So, you're dog tired because you have to get up early to get to the airport, then feel like crap in the mid afternoon, knowing you need to make it the rest of the day. Flights going east leave late so you can get up at a normal time and you're tired when you get on the plane, better chance to sleep. Of course it doesn't help that I was in Tokyo the last time just two weeks ago!
Yes, I guess it depends on what time you are landing. Most of my really longhaul flights (NY-Singapore, a lovely 18 hr & 45 minute flight over the North Pole and China) leaves in NY evening and lands Sing in early morning. Choice of airline is huge, as Singapore Airlines to me is one of the best in air quality on board and ability to really get a good night's sleep. In general, the advantage of going west is that you are lengthening your day, which is easier than shortening your night. So a short trip to the West Coast U.S. is easy since you can stay up late LA time (which is even later NY time) but don't feel bad because you end up sleeping really late (based on departure city) the next morning. Even a 6 a.m. wakeup in LA is like a 9:00 a.m. wakeup in NY, eg no problem. Flying east on the redeye to London is tougher to adapt to because it is east, another two time zones but also because you land at 2 a.m. NY time. Flying daytime kills a whole day and doesn't seem to improve things very much as it is tough to get to sleep the first night. Fortunately I sleep well on planes, which helps. As much as I like seeing the world, I am glad that my round the world globe trotting trips are fewer than they were 10 years ago. John
I just landed at LAX getting in on the Thai Airways flight from Bangkok. Arrive 2 1/2 hours after leaving on the same day. Non-stop flight - 14 1/2 hours. This is the short direction - 17 1/2 going over. Got the morning from LAX to St. Louis so get in at 5:00 pm. Ususally it doesn't matter on this run which direction I go; will be screwed up for about 4 days. 12 time zones between St. Louis and Bangkok. Found out before I left that I might have to retun in 2 weeks for a couple days of meetings. Oh joy! Go back to Thailand for 4 or 5 weeks starting in July anyway. Jeff
Hi Jeff Try Melatonin, as a veteran (make that victim) of endless transcontinental air travel it worked wonders for me and always got my sleep pattern back to normal in 36/48 hours. best! Mike
