Who know more about this nice looking BBLM series 1 replica? Posted by reghiu today on forum-auto Image Unavailable, Please Login
About three years ago, I purchased a conversion BBLM, based on an original Ferrari Boxer chassis. It is a car who was owned by Lawrence Stroll, and built with the same parts that were used to build the original BBLM. When I visited Maranello, two years ago with the Ferrari Club of France, we had dinner at Bachelli - if I am not wrong - and they confirmed having built a conversion on original chassis. Anyway, I bought the car to have fun at the track, particularly at Club Events; the car fullfilled all my expectations - it is a different animal in a sea of 360s and 430s - drives easily - I had a Lola T10 Mk III B and it was a handful - looks great, and sounds terrific. It is identical to an original, but of course it is not an original, and does not have any racing history. I knew when I bought it that the engine needed some work, and I paid accordingly. Last year the car went through and engine rebuild, and it is ready for fun again. Here a picture of the beast. Image Unavailable, Please Login
We have had nine years of incredibly wonderful driving experience with 44023, I am not quite sure how to append photo's to these reply's but if you send me an e mail ( [email protected] ) I would be more than happy to send along a number of recent photo's of the car which you can post if you like on this bblm site, it is a great drive and a super car. We are just thinking through the Classiche work, preliminary discussions with the SPA are under way. That should be a major help in sorting out the numbers puzle. Actually the factory constructed 32 vehicles, delivered 27 I understand and built 39 motors. Motors were serialize 0001 through 0039 and the BBLM chassis numbers were just pulled off the 512 line and so htere is no serialized connection with the chassis since the aggregation occured at the race shop and record transfers and inter communicatins appear to have been somewhat lax at that point in ferrari history. A great car and a fantastic drive considering its age.
With great pleasure....here we go! "44023 taken at Moroso in February of 2007" Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Series III cars are constructed from scratch I believe because the tubing is much lighter than production cars. Maybe other fchatters know it better.
As far as we can tell, after much conversation with Ferrari SPA, the base chassis is a 512BB, all bodywork and the motor were provided by the race shop. We have been able to interchange many standard 512BB bits and pieces as we have rebuilt things resulting from bumps here and there as well as many basic motor components, we have however had to contract out cranks, fuel distribution, transmission components as well as all of the body components that we have nicked and bent in tracking the car. For example the rear bell housing was interchangeable with the Testarossa while the gear ratios required hand work in replacing the bits inside the bell housing. Classiche application will require SPA to get more specific and direct. Todd Morichi's car, I understand, is currently undergoing the Classiche authentification process and 44023 will be right behind.
I took the photo in post #127 just before the Le Mans race in 1980. Here is another one with #27577. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I took this photo of 30559 chassisno. at Le Mans Classic this weekend. It LOOKS if the plate was cut out and welded in this chassis. Normally there are no welds around the stampings. What is the history if this car? Crashed at that particular spot? There was no original BBLM engine in the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
All the 512BBlm chassis numbers are like that. they all have a welded plate in which the vin is stamped. and as shown, it is only the last 5 numbers. regards, jim
