Several mos ago, I asked Howie about eBay costs.... ex: $50K car. Here was his response: Bob, If the fees are still the same, it costs $ 40.00 to list a vehicle on Ebay. There are options that cost a tad extra, such as setting a reserve and using the "buy it now". If the car meets the reserve on Ebay, there is an additional $ 40.00 flat fee.

I heard it costs a flat amount to list the car on ebay. Not sure if htey get a % or not. As for emailing the seller offline I guess I am talking about cars that are still under reserve. Once above thier price they would probably wait. Most don't make reserve so a seller is open to a "real" buyer with a "real" check rather than phantom buyers looking for a steal. |

I think there is a % of the sale that goes to ebay or is it a flat fee? |

Jim, Regarding the ebay sales, what is the incentive for the seller to work a deal with someone offline, vs continuing with the auction and hoping for a higher price? Thanks, Ron

Marcus, When you're serious, talk to Exotic Car World. I know they don't have a physical location right now, but the people there were just great when I bought my 328.

Marcus: Tons of 328's on ebay www.traderonline.com Also on ebay don't bid and buy. Email the owner and they will work a deal with you offline. Also, this board has some good guys on it with personal cars or they broker others. Martin www.4ferrari.com, Howie www.exoticautobrokers.com You will see all kinds of prices from $39k up to $59K. Any decent '86, '87 can be had today for $42K tops. |

I am not sure if this is a stupid question, but when I decide to start looking seriously for a 328 where do I go (San Antonio)? When I go in there I want the experience to be exciting and pleasurable, none of this Bull Sh*T!!! |

I was in Plano yesterday and stopped by the new FoD. Believe it or not, I was actually greeted by someone. He walked me back to the service facility and showed me around... then introduced me to Michael Heywood, the svc mgr. I was stunned. |

I used to frequent FoD when Bill was the Manager back in the Day. Talk about an unpleasant person. I had been treated like trash by that guy more than I cared to count, but at the same time I paid him little attention. I was there for myself and my own curiosities in looking at the cars close up. When I met James he was friendly and genuinely nice to me. He's always apt to talk about cars, motorsports or whatever. So is Mike (mechanic). I can talk to them for hours and just shoot the breeze about cars and technical questions I have about Ferraris in general. But like Some of you I can't STAND some of the ither personelle. Tony, I'm not sure, he's nice on the FErrarilist (when I was on) but jsut ignores most people in person. not sure why... There's a guy with a British (or similar) accent there now, that I don't like much. He always has a superior tone in his voice and is not friendly at all. Some people may get an aire about them because they feel it fits an image, but at least in my experience James and Mike are REAL people who I can talk to and feel friendly with. As far as I know they have nothign bad to say about anyone. |

if i am not mistaken, tony nevotti is the sales agent for fod, previously, he was at foh (good ridance). he has been an ass every time i have talked to him. years ago, sid simpson was working at foh and that is how i learned about ferraris. sid was a wonderful asset to the marque. after sid retired, i stopped going to ferrai of houston because of tony and his indifferent attitude. recently, foh added a new sales agent named joe maniacci (sp?) and he is awesome. he participates in the fca-houston club events and actually talks to everyone he can. since joe arrived, foh is a much different place. as for the foh service department, i may be speaking prematurely as i have not had service work done there in a long time, i don't think that they are all that familar with the "older" cars. much of their time and energy is focused on the challenge races and the service work on post 1990 cars, as that is most of what you see being serviced there. i would be very hesitant to take anything older than a 1990 model, as i don't believe they are qualified any longer. but then again, that's what keeps the independent mechanics in business. prior to risi taking over ferrari of dallas, a political thing due to his fna connections, classic bmw was the dealer. there are many cars, including my testarossa, running around with the texas flag emblem on the bumper, a classic trademark. honestly, if i was buying a ferrari new and they put that on my car, i would not be a hapy person. |

Raleigh. Even tho they are not there anymore, ECW was more than happy to let me test a 348 witrh no more than a check of insurance and signing a waiver. I can't believe that FoD was asking for $1500 to test before you buy. I was out looking at the red 328 that was traded in out there recently. I was offered a test drive but James ssaid I would have to come back another time cuz they couldnt do it on a weekend, something about it being too busy to be able to do it. He took my number and said he would call me when it was all cleaned up so I could come look at it and test it if desired. Needless to say, I never got the call. Being in sales myself, I couldn't imagine blowing off a customer of mine who seemed genuinely interested in what I sell. But hey, I have learned that common sense isn't always common practice. Are those guys commisioned salespeople? If they are, no wonder there are no fcars in the employee parking lot. |

Bob. Lineback is about a half mile north of FoD. They are just west of Willowbend mall and the tollway on Park in Plano. I have been in there once before on a weekday when I was up that way visiting clients and they were very helpful. When I was there yesterday, they didnt get to me before I had to leave but there were actually out helping people. |

Raleigh, that is ATROCIOUS sales behavior. I would never tolerate that. When we ordered the 550, I was given the opportunity to drive a pre-owned one BEFORE having to decide whether to order a new one or not. This was at Ferrari of San Antonio. And when we bought the 328 from Ferrari of Los Gatos, both my wife & I were offered to drive it, WITHOUT US EVEN HAVING TO ASK. And, while we exhibited general signs of interest in it, by no means had we decided to buy it, since neither of us had ever driven a 328 before. BTW, I am 41 years old and do not dress expensively nor with tons of fancy jewelry... |

Since I am looking for a 348 I asked to test drive a black one they had at FoD. I was told I had to pay a $1500 deposite and sign something saying that if the car did what I expected that I would buy the car. I said no thanks and walked out. Is that a common thing as well when you want to see if it is the car you want? |

By the way, Lineback Enterprises just down the street has a 456GTA, a 355GTS, and twin 328 Spiders. And they were out helping customers even. It was almost like they were there to sell cars instead of sit behind a desk warming a chair. Amazing. |

I went by the new place today and WOW, what a difference. Unfortunately, the difference is all in the building, not in the service. James was there, but helping a gentleman with a Maserati. The other guys just walked past me repeatedly. Not even a hello. While the new building is impressive, the service is still at the same, sub-par level it has been the last 5 years I have been going in to visit those guys. By the way, there is a Yellow 550 Barchetta, the blue F50, and the Risi Racing 333SP out there. I had to laugh when some poor sap was trying to impress his girlfriend telling her about how the automatic top worked on the 550b just like the 360 spider next to it. (last time I check, the top was not only non-automatic, it was non-existent |

Phunny how that 'no service' thing goes down...'bout 15 yrs ago, when i was first getting into the 'Ferrari Thing', i dropped by FOD, talked to some sales guy named Tony, who promptly fluffed me off big time, altho before he did he turned me onto the FML...any rate, couple yrs later, after i'd had a used 308 and had decided to buy NEW, not only did i not go by/buy FOD, i didn't even think of checking with them, and probably wouldn't even do so today, even tho i know it's different owner/mgmt/people...sometimes the bad taste lingers a lonnnng time. |

I was there today and James Dunne greeted me. He has always been friendly even if I am not in a suit. I think the blue 360 is the one to have since the F50 isn't for sale. |

They used to treat me badly or I should say treat me not at all. However I think I have figured them out. I am young so I don't look like a rich to be customer so if I don't ask anything they figure I am day dreaming. I have gotten good treatment when I ask questions that are relevant like price, miles, services done and I quote some other prices from my research. I figure they think if I know what I am talking about then I "could" be a customer or at least I am not a snot nosed kid asking "how fast does this red one go!" James Dunne has been very nice to me the last 2 times I was in there and a mechanic Steve? was very nice to me. Talked for 10+ mins about the yellow barchetta they have in there and then about 308's reliability so wide range of topics. |

Ok, I went by the new FOD today. The Azzuro California F50 is there, as is the 333sp, and the 550B. Damn nice place, Damn nice cars, same damn service. They've got a nice set of matched Vespas, one that says "Rubens" the other "Michael". Both are rosso corsa and have Ferrari badges, and are signed by MS and RB. Pretty cool. |

JimE, If you were to take Plano Parkway and go under the Tollway the street turns into International. You come up to a stop sign at which you take a left. The building sits on the left hand side of international, you cant't miss it (All glass up front with two flag poles) When I drove by yesterday, they had a white 550 in the showroom. |

Evan, Went to FOD last week and talked to Mr. Risi (Luis-sp?-is he the son?) and turned in my resume, hopefully something will come up. I called yesterday and the receptionist said the shop will open Wednesday-she told me to talk to the service manager. I drove by, it looks beautiful! Anything I should say or do to help my chances? Any help would be much appreciated. -Best regards, Marcus |

I talked to James Dunne yesterday and Classis does own the bld. He said Classic was going to use it to show the new Cooper Mini's as they have to have a seperate showroom. However, they didn't get the franchise so they are pissed. That used to be the original classic BMW dealership he said. |

Mr Risi leases the building from Classic BMW, but they let them (me) do the repairs. That building is really falling apart, so anyone who wants it can get a great price, unless BMW is using it. FoD moves into the Plano location this weekend, finally. The Enzo shows up in a month or so. |

Whoa! $933K for that building! Usually rents are about 1% of value so the new leasee will probably be asked to pay $9K a month. Funk Dat! |

Anyone know what happens to FoD's building when they move to new spot? Do they own it or lease it? Heard it was in shambles, but not sure. What is the guy's name who owns it? Mr. Ricci? I was toying with the idea of tire/wheel shop with tons of little accessories like exhausts and what not, but lots of memorabilia like stickers, badges, clothing, display cases etc. Basically all the stuff we like in Forza and other places. Not sure it would work on the memorabilia part as it eats up $$ to stock the things, but to keep some on hand would be cool and I would know where to get the other stuff and perhaps make a buck on the side. Seems you would have to cater to the ricer crowd a bit as ferrari/porsche crowd is relatively small so might not have volume to sustain business. Anyway I thought it might be cool to be int he old Ferrari shop as it is known by location and is right off central. Bet rent is pricey! Thoughts? |
