The "healthy looking guy" is Guerino Bertocchi, Maserati's famous tester/technician. It is generally regarded that Zagato screwed up Costin's design for the body on the Le Mans car. But in this picture, "Workmen have just finished assembling the aluminum body of the Maserati 4500. Happy with the result, they pose for the souvenir photo." Hey, who cares about winning? |

Cool. This is the picture I saw about 20 years ago. Isn't the healthy looking guy on the right one of the Maserati brothers? Doesn't seem like, in any of the advertising I see for the 4200, that they use their illustrious history as much as they could. |

Already shortly after Le Mans 4501 had a different body. This is a pic some years after Le Mans with Ferrari writer Hans Tanner on the left. |

If the pic of the star-flared headlight-area-car, is how it orginally looked in it's day, and the Pebble Beach is how it looks now, then I call that Blesphemy, otherwise incredible (not sure what I'm looking at). |

Here is a pic of 4512 when it raced Le Mans in 1957 and was still 4501. The second is from Pebble this year where it stood after a complete restoration by the present owner Alfredo Brener.

Boudewijn I bet that's where a birdcage would be. I bet a 450 would be 2-3. |

Andrew, 10 were made: #4501 through #4510, with chassisno's 4511 and 4512 assigned to engines only. #4501 was the Costin-Zagato car, later renumbered 4512. #4507 was heavily crashed in the Caracas GP of 1957 as well and was written off. So of the original 450's the Costin car included 9 survive. 10 years ago a 450 was sold for $1.1 million. I guess today they would go for $1-2. |

Thank you, Vincent! I have a room full of old books and magazines, I love digging up material like this, even though I should be asleep at this hour. |

Here is the famous ending of 450S #4503, Caracas GP, November 3, 1957. Driver Harry Schell survived with burns on his arms. |
