Ok. It seems that a C4 has slightly better power to weight ratio and can accelerate slightly quicker than a 328. The 328 has better braking performance, handling and cornering performance.

Peter,

No doubt the 355 is cooler, faster and more fun. But bang for the buck..........

I'm quite confident that C5 will beat 328 on track. On the other hand...

A professional racing driver made a 355 vs Ferrari C5 test on track with following result.

F355 F1 Berlinetta 1.33.73
Chevrolet Corvette C5 1.37.21
3,5 sec difference, thats a lot.

Yes Magoo I agree. I was talking performance. I would still take a 328 over a Z06.

For the track you can't compare but for class and distinction you can't compare the vette to a Ferrari 328 or otherwise.

You definitely can't. I saw a guy in CT today with a red Z06 with a number on the side and with a trailer with an extra set of rims and tires on it today. Cool car that you can drive to a track event, race all day, and then drive back.

I don't think you can compare a Z06 to a C4 or a 328.

There's a big difference between a C4 and a C5, especially on the track, wow I don't know where to begin about how different a car they are.

The 328 is a great car and I truly love the 60000 miles inclunding 22 track events I put on mine but lets not get carried away. Last year at Watkins Glen, A ZO6 was blowing away ALL 308''s, 328's (including mine) and was clearly competative with the 355 and even 360 challange cars. I could get to 120 or so before the bus stop chicane: he was doing 150. Look at the SCCA. For some reason, the 328 is in the same class as some big iron and I don't think anyone races them. Its a great 260shp car, nimble with good brakes and was very competative in the FCA/FOC upper run groups in the early 90's but not now.

I see what Tim is saying, I still think the C4s look the nicest, especially with different rims (those stock ones are a little ugly IMO, need a nice 5 spoke). The new vettes are sooooo wide compared to the C4s, don't feel as nimble even though they can in actuality out turn them.

Once I'm done with this 308 project it should be able to take a stock C4, C5s are pretty fast though so we'll have to see.

John, by fastest i meant top speed. I was suprised too when i heard they were the most aerodynamic.

Thanks. So far I like Bret's post most ;-)

Anyway, in this case it's a -93 with LT 1 engine with 310(?) hp.

The cause of this post is endless discussions at lunch with a colleague.

From my experience (my close friend has a 94 C4) the 328 (I have 308QV) would kill it in braking and corners, absolutely wreck it. The vette would out accelerate it. But I feel the difference in braking and cornering would be greater than that of the acceleration difference. Depends on track very much in this case.

I own both. Each has its qualities and is a great drive. The different cars in my collection hold different attraction, rather like a litter of pups, they have personalities. A vintage mustang GT handles like a beached whale, yet it too has attraction. I will admit the Ferraris push more buttons for me than the other 14.
Peter, my opinion is enjoy each car for what it is.
Best regards
Russ

Tim,
I personally would have thought that the 2002 Z06 C5 is the fastest and most aerodynamic vette. Correct me if I am wrong.

He probably means the one that was around when the 328 was around. That would be either a 350 L98 TPI with 230hp and 330lb/ft. In 87, they had 240hp and 340lb/ft, then they had 245hp and 345lb/ft for a while. But if the owner got the callaway twin turbo option, i think they had 345hp, which should make easy work of the 328. On the track the 328 has a good chance because its lighter and brakes better, but the vette definately has the advantage in top speed, the C4's were the fastest, most aerodynamic vettes ever made, even mote than the C5.

Stock on track. No mods. No 0-60, just track capabilities.

Do you american guys have any opinion about this subject?

Ciao
Peter
