Sherman Wolf R.I.P.

Long term Ferrari collector Sherman Wolf of New Hampshire has passed away. Sherman, who invented the pager and other communication tools, was a very passionate collector and owned several significant competition Ferraris including the ex-Phil Hill 212 Export Barchetta Touring 0078 E, a spectacular two tone painted 340 MM Spider Vignale 0350 AM, a lightblue metallic 275 GTS Spider, a 500 TRC Spider Scaglietti, a 250 GT LWB California Spider Scaglietti, several Maseratis and a huge collection of parts and Houdaille shock absorbers plus a large group of mechanical instruments. I had the great pleasure of meeting Sherman Wolf several times and he was always very friendly and enthusiastic, a very serious car guy.
May he rest in peace.

RIP, Sherman Wolf.

I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Mr. Wolf when he brought the 212 to Road Atlanta for a celebration with Phil Hill decades ago and had the opportunity to ride with him as well. When Phil drove the car around with Mr. Wolf in the passenger seat, legions were lined up against the fence for a very special moment.

His sharing of his passion and his cars kindled in many an interest in the older cars and the 340, when he raced it at Lime Rock, was a sight to behold.

R.I.P Sherman Wolf
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Wolf back in 1995 in Italy a couple of days before the start of the Mille Miglia ,he had his 212 export ,ex Phil Hill and he was given rides to all the folks in our group,I was last in line when my turn came up I ask him if I could also get a ride ,and he said No but i,ll let you drive it,I will never forget that experience,flying along the Italian countryside,thinking It does not get better than this....Mr Wolf ,a true gentleman.

i met him in boston in 1985. he was quite the ferrari guy. his collection was impressive and he was also a great writer.

Had the pleasure of spending time with him at his New Hampshire home and shop. Fabulous man. Very sad news.

Saddened by this news. I happened to be there the day, many years ago, at the local Cambridge Ferrari dealership, when Sherman had his just acquired California pulled into the shop for a visit. It was a very original car at the time and I remember him explaining that he was trying to slowly stretch out the original top - it had not been up, perhaps ever. Sherman used his cars, he brought them out locally. He understood both the mechanics and soul of a V-12. A hands-on person; an astute technician, the definition of smart. I had not seen him in a long time, but he would always take the time to answer my questions about his cars. Peace to you Sherman.

RIP Mr. Wolf- or as I was told, Dr. Wolf. Either way, RIP Sir.
I had the pleasure of spending time around 0078 and 0350 at Lime Rock one weekend with his mechanic/custodian for the collection, Spencer Gudert. Super nice guy and spoke very highly of his boss and his enthusiasm for the cars.
Saw Spencer again a couple years later at (I think) Moroso. Those great cars have definitely been in good hands for quite some time. I saw his name again and again in the Mille Miglia rosters. Definitely an owner who really appreciated what he had. Forza.

I was deeply saddened by this news. Sherman was a fine gentleman and a good friend. We have not been closely in touch in the last years, but it was always a pleasure to hear from him.
We got to know each other long time ago, in one of the early historic Mille Miglia. I guess it was 1984 or 1985. He was there with his lovely barchetta Touring 212 while I was driving my 250 Monza. We had good fun driving next to each other for most of the event and we ended-up swapping cars and doing several miles with a different entry. That was good fun and I will always remember him and his lovely car!

"I am so sad to hear of the passing of our dear friend Sherman Wolf.
We first met Sherm in 1983 when he came to stay with us and our young family. Following this visit Sherm purchased from us the first of his significant Ferraris, the blue and white 340MM (ex Sterling Edwards).

We quickly found we had a common passion for things mechanical and shared the aim of attempting to acheive perfection whilst agreeing that 'Perfection is not of this world'
With the proceeds of the 340MM sale we purchased our Watford premises where we restored numerous Ferraris for Sherm, almost all of which he had kept to this day, and all are bettter now than when we first completed the restorations.
I can clearly see his smiling face and hear his quiet but infectious laugh which generally permeated conversation.

Sherm's generosity and kindness to others was inspirational. I was lucky enough to share with Sherm the enjoyment of many events including a memorable 80's Mille Miglia event where we drove at outrageous speeds in that extremely powerful 340MM. We spoke just a few weeks ago and although he could no longer drive the old cars his enthusiasm was undeterred .Explaining excitedly he was restoring for US owners lots of the tricky Houdaille shock absorbers as used on early Ferraris.

I consider myself blessed to have had the friendship of such an exceptional guy.
Sherm you will be sorely missed.

For those of us that used Wolf Enterprises to rebuild the Ferrari lever shocks

Dan can be reached at (603)566 3159 and intends to continue rebuilding the shock assemblies.

Sherman will be missed.

He had some great events at his awesome garage... will miss the special times. I ran into SW last year and thanked him for all he had done, so sad to see he has passed
