Joining the vintage club - 1967 330GTC

Well friends,

today is the day that I join the Ferrari vintage owners club. I've been a fan of vintage Ferraris since I was a kid but ever since I bought my first Ferrari almost exactly 2 years ago - a 550 Maranello which I still own - and joined F-chat the exposure to vintage Ferrari owners has made me crave those wonderful cars more and more. Last September, I was lucky enough to purchase a 365 Berlinetta Boxer which is an amazing car, but a V12 from the '60ies was still on the list. Most of these cars are outside of my budget, but I've always been a fan of the 330GTC's wonderful lines and concept. Knowing a bit more about them, I think it's right to summarise them as a 275GTB undercarriage with different body, much more soundproofing, more luxury and a bigger engine. For me, a truly undervalued model in the Ferrari community. Luckily, that makes them affordable for me.

The car I'm picking up today is from early 1967, #9367. It has had only 3 owners - delivered in Switzerland it stayed with its first owner until 1984. The car was white with white interior.... quite an odd combination! It moved to the States in 1984 where it was repainted red and given a black interior, and 4 years later it moved to Holland into the hands of the current owner. The current owner is a longstanding classic Ferrari collector who is very meticulous and has restored the car to wonderful condition, in Sera Blu, between 1988 and 1993. Since then, the car has travelled 33k kms and has been to many Ferrari and classic events all over Europe. The restoration only comprised stripping of paint, retinning (yes - the old method!), spraying and retrimming the interior. No expense was spared to make the car as original as possible, although it is of course not the original interior nor the original exterior colour. Since the restoration she's had no further work done but she looks better than new. The quality of the paint work is spectacular, and the retinning has made the panels just perfect. Not a kink or blemish to be found.

I am very privileged that the owner consented to sell the car to me, as he had trouble letting it go. I think the pics speak for themselves - and you will see why I fell for her the first time I saw her over 2 months ago.

Next week I am taking the car on a 6 day tour to Switzerland with other Ferrari owners and I am dying to get to know her! It will be wonderful to drive her through the Alps. And in September I'll take her to the Goodwood Revival - a perfect companion for a weekend like that. After that, perhaps I'll get bold enough to drive her like the old owner did: mostly sideways... These cars are apparently much more sporty than many think. I can't wait to find out.

I'll post more and better pics as time goes on. For now - I just have to pinch myself.

Onno,

I'm green with envy!

Your new baby just looks great, and like Oscar said, all the fun is ahead.

I have never seen a white/white 330 GTC, and hope I never will. The colour combo is magnificent.

Congratulations!

Jack.

One Class Act!

Kudos Onno,

Your GTC is exquisite! I've not seen one in that color. Wow! I'm confident that you will be pleased with the surprisingly nimble handling and the excellent ride, and will find yourself gazing at the lines and subtle styling cues that will nurture you love for this masterpiece. Understated, elegant, comfortable. She is a marvelous addition to your stable.

Our first Ferrari was a 330 GTC. It was red on black with Borranis, not quite concours but a lovely driver. It had a tad over 99k miles on the clock when we parted company. My wife enjoyed it nearly as much as I did, and we suffered serious seller's remorse when it left our home.

Onno, please accept this note of caution when driving your beauty: Respect her age and remember her raison d'etre. Don't push the envelope as you might in the Maranello, and don't flog her as you could the Boxer. She is a classy lady, certainly capable of spirited performance...but more sure-footed as a grand tourer.

Don't ever let her go.
Coop

My Swiss friend has set out various Alpine passes for us to try. We'll be overnighting in Murten and Tarasp, and I'll be visiting a friend on the French side of Lake Geneva. I hope the weather will be good, but it's not a necessity to have fun of course.

Congratulations Onno! Truly a Magnificent car!

You just returned from Italy with the Maranello and next week you'll be driving the 330 GTC in Switzerland... meanwhile the 365BB is waiting in England.
And let's not forget the TVR That's great! Life can be good! Enjoy!

Would be great to see a pic of your 3 cars together someday. Super.

Alexander
