I believe cars are assigned reg. plates based on when they were first registered. So if an F40 had been bought some years previous and sat in a private collection and not registered until late 2001 it would have a 51 plate.

By a previous owner, the car was temporarily exported to Australia, but because of subsequently invoked restrictions on the importation of LHD cars, it was returned to the UK..hence the "period" 51 plate. A great believer in using his cars, the current owner has recently returned from a faultless trip to Spa...I hope this helps Ed |
