Replaced the support struts on the rear deck. Great price on these - $22 for the pair. Good strong pressure, holding the weight nicely, and they are a perfect fit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FS3TXDI
Hi Mike - the old struts are actually 2 different ones. Neither has Ferrari branding; one is Stabilus, and the other just has a blue sticker label with a part number stamped on it. I'm guessing both are generic aftermarket.
Today, I discovered something new about my (10-day owned) car. Spent some time looking through the stack of maintenance records that came it. One item in particular caught my eye: ***NOTE: AFTERMARKET IGNITION PRESENT. Erm... huh? I'd noticed the distributors and wires looked a rather new, while I've been poking around the engine bay. I just assumed it was new OEM parts, keeping things maintained. But that line in the records got me wondering. Pulled out a socket, opened up the metal plate in the back left of the trunk... and... Wow. Apparently a PO installed a Nicks Forza XDI system. Guess I can cross that upgrade off my "things I may buy if I ever have a ton of spare cash" list. Thanks, PO's.
Welcome to the tribe! It is GREAT to see that you are already jumping in "fixing stuff" on your car. That has to be part of the fun. Great news on the ignition; lucky!
Leaned mine up and went to Ice Cream Sunday car show at UofD Creamery Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Drove my 85 QV over 400 miles today in the Florida heat, from Jacksonville to Tampa and back--and rolled her past 30,000 miles. I guess she is no longer a "low-mileage car," and thus completely worthless. I should probably just give her away now or take her to Carmax... Despite the fact that the car is now worth roughly zero dollars, she did very well. In fact, the car took the heat better than I did. My headlights are still wonky, but I believe we figured out why... and even how it got that way. Will post an update in a few days on that thread; hopefully to report that I was able to fix the problem.
If you don't mind me asking (and I would hope not, considering that this is pretty much a DIY forum) what exact LED lights (maker, part number) did you use, and was a separate load-balancer required to make the turn signals flash properly?
My old flasher relay burned out when the voltage regulator failed so I had a new relay from AutoZoneLED friendly.
I purchased from Superbriteleds.com based on another Fchat recommendation. For the back up bulbs I used cool 1156 LED Bulb - 27 SMD LED Tower - BA15S Retrofit. For tail and brake I used 1157 LED Bulb - Dual Function 27 SMD LED Tower - BAY15D Retrofit - Red. Nothing else required. Have not changed the rear turn signals as I first have to change out the flashers. The back up lights are great. I can now see when backing up!
Andrew, when you put in a new fan switch on the radiator did you use the original 195F switch or move to the lower 180F temp version? I have to replace my thermo-fan switch and curious. Birdman's website and some other threads highly recommend using a 180F switch.
Bill, I went for the standard 195 but dont forhet here in the UK temps are different. Personally if you are not in serious hot weather or you don't envisage hard driving, or traffic jams you should be OK. Mine worked fine driving hard for two whole days giving charity rides at the old Top Gear test track (helping raise $150,000 for a Children's Charity). I was regularly using up to 7500 revs all day with no overheating issues Andrew
I went ahead and swapped in a 180F switch since I'm in Northern California and it gets over 95F here in the summer with absolutely horrid traffic nearly every day. I drove it around a bit with the AC cranking full in (~85F outside) and it stayed pegged at 195F on the gauge. Before this it would run a full tick over 195. Hopefully this brings me much less heat anxiety when I'm climbing up hills at 30mph.
