I was under the impression you did. How can it be done?

Sort of. They offer the 148632 pulley (which doesn't really fail that often) as a Hill Engineering piece, and they also supply the OEM SKF bearing 123350 (mostly as a convenience item for folks who are already purchasing the pulley) Again, you'll need to check whether your vehicle even has the 'later style' integrated plastic pulley with bearing, or the older aluminum pulley/bearing configuration.

Mine always had a kind of chattering sound when you stood with the engine bay lid open. Could not hear it in the car. Specialist told me it was nothing to worry about. Did it for the 5 years I had it to no detriment, well at least to my knowledge.

Thanks Daniel. I'll check my assembly number to see which I have.

I would first use a mechanic's stethoscope on the alternator, the tensioner pulley and the AC compressor (switched off) to try to locate where exactly the noise is coming from. I replaced alternators on two of my cars because they developed a kind of, a bit irregular, knocking/grating sound. I believe this was caused by somewhat worn alternator bearings allowing the rotor to graze the stator.

Could be your tensioner bearing...the one for the alternator belt. It will make a deep hollow sound.
