Are you going to pick up a 6 speed Porsche GT3? Seems like the sort of car you consistently describe as a "new car i'd buy". I'm curious how the PDK vs. manual split works out; I do know that Porsche was able to leverage an existing gearbox which kept the development costs low(er) and therefore financially attractive at the GT3 price point and at potentially limited volumes...

As for Ferrari, I'm not sure how literal we can take SM's commentary, but he's somewhat consistently said they would

    1) Likely maintain their current technical approach (i.e. aluminum chassis, DCT, front/mid engine platforms)
    2) keep the top end cars as limited supply (eg. Cali, GTC, 488 and 812). Obviously GTC and Cali would be less constrained on supply....he wants a 9-12 month wait list and demand to exceed supply by a fair margin
    3) SM has said that to grow, without oversupplying any one platform, he foresees having additional models.....so the chances of a "dino" or additional variants might be possible so they can grow overall volume w/o oversupplying the 488, GTC, et al segments

I'd say that in any scenario, I'd be hard pressed to see them offering a manual gearbox in one of their cars anytime soon, or to create a platform that is as simplistic as an Alfa 4c with a horse on it. If anything, the claim that all cars post 2019 will be hybrid would indicate going in the other direction

What intrigues me most is supposed new "Dino" model. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

    Cheers

Okay something is definitely funky here.

ANDC does have a much higher number then WSJ which shows lower Q1.

The Alfa and Maserati numbers match up. I sent an email to ANDC to ask what's up?

Thanks Nigel!! that's a cool site by the way!! I never got a response from ANDC. Looks like I'll just have to wait until tomorrow's earnings report to find out the truth.

    Cheers

ANDC was wrong - I see now that as well as GCBC have reverted to WSJ numbers.

Which show 20% increase in April for USA

    Both match now - lesson?

    Trust WSJ numbers.

I knew something was wrong with those numbers, I just didn't want to offend you Paul. :D

Even those WSJ April numbers are misleading in that obviously earlier sales were not reported until April. If you look at sales YTD, Ferrari has only sold one more car than last year. That makes more sense to me. ;)

No worries my friend, that's why I put the source....guess it's a black box...can't even trust WSJ!!

Even GCBC matches my numbers intially so go figure!!?

But, happy as a clam=RACE up 7% today, ain't gonna complain about that!

"Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" as far as US Ferrari sales go!

2016 US sales totalled 2398 units, an average of 199.83 / say 200 units a month.

GCBC's 2017 data listed to March is:-

    Jan: 200 - 200
    Feb: 270 - 470
    Mar: 262 - 732 Total

These figures are still listed today, but GCBC yesterday's release for April has now listed the WSJ figures of 259# / total 734#?

    734-200 (Jan)= 534

    534÷3= 178#, below average!!

Sales Jan - April should be around +/- 800 units.

Possible error is February should be 170#, as per Feb 2016.

    2016 US Ferrari sales:-

Jan - 141 (Snowy Winter reduced average sales)
    Feb - 170
    Mar - 205
    Apr - 217

Theoretical 2017 January - April could be 200+[170]+262+259= 891 units.

    Thanks Nigel!!

I know, I'm confused myself!! your math looks right to me as well.

I'll keep an eye on WSJ ANDC GCBC and see where numbers fall the next couple months.

    Cheers

I completely agree. Spiders are a plus and a minus. Not everyone needs to be forced to accept "the minus".

These are just the USA numbers. I'd like to know what the sales figures for Asia are. I don't think they'll miss their target.
