Given the current situation that Williams is in with drivers, I welcome it. Bas would be all for it. Kubica's testing awhile back was longer than a normal race stint....greater than 2hrs so he has the stamina and endurance....thats for sure. Yes, it was in an older car. I just need to see where his times are at given the track to compare it to the current drivers in Williams and the rest of the field. He is training in the 2017 car as he just has to get up to speed with the software and modes of the car. Had this been Ferrari, MB, or RB in their current state of drivers then I would say, 'NO FREAKIN WAY." But its Williams and their current drivers are....paltry in performance so why not take a chance on Kubica. He might impress us or let us down.
Performances aren't the only criteria that decide sponsors to support a driver. It's a lot more complex than that.
keeping my fingers crossed for Robert, if he has to return all the money from the insurence, he must be prety confident he can succeed in f.1, othjerwise it would be a very stupid move from him....
OCTOBER 12, 2017 Williams to keep Kubica test news private says Lowe Williams is not releasing information about Robert Kubica's test that took place at Silverstone this week. All a spokesman for the British team would say about the Pole's run in a 2014 car was that it had been "successful". "We will not be releasing any further information at this time," the spokesman said. But it is believed Williams will follow up Kubica's Silverstone run on Wednesday with a more comprehensive two-day test in Hungary next week. That test will also be attended by Paul di Resta, another contender to replace Felipe Massa next year. "We will test those two drivers," team technical director Paddy Lowe confirmed. "We won't give away any information around what we do within those tests -- that's a private matter for us and I would stress that it doesn't mean they're the only drivers under consideration."
Yap, WE all miss you Bas, since you went away, everyting got ****ed up!!! ...championship went out the window and it's all you fault!! damn you for not being here when we needed you! !!!
Honestly, that's exactly what I was thinking. Posts exactly like him. -Argumentative -Posts a lot, says little -Usually wrong -Joined around the same time william got shown the door Hmmmm
Why? Because I think Kubica isn't exactly the pin-up boy for a sponsor? What's argumentative about that? It would be a gamble to back him up. In any case, he is not really the new blood Williams needs.
Williams already has their new blood in Stroll. Kubica would be their best option. It would be a marketing dream, get them lots of good press. His times were fast in his Hungary test. What are the other options? An old Massa or DiResta who hasn't raced in years and wasn't impressive when he did?
I've been looking at lots of old YouTube videos of Kubica's racing...in F1 and rallies...and he is a passionate and skilled driver of the first rank. Here is a link to footage of him testing in a wrc car in 2015...after his accident. It is just great stuff. I truly think he will electrify the F1 grid no matter what car he is driving.
Pay driver, rich daddies looking to buy teams, sentimental returns, most teams with zero chance of winning, races that are parades. Such is the state of F1 today. It's starting to look more like a reality TV show than a sport.
