IMO, he designed the most beautiful Ferraris on earth.

He did and it is somewhat of a miracle/mistery that until recently he got so little publicity. Pininfarina got all the credit when it was him who actually designed the cars.

Does anyone know the reason why he left Pininfarina?

Worked at Pininfarina for more than 20 years
In 1987 he became the Project Director at Ferrari for the F40.
Later he was appointed by Enzo Ferrari to be the Vice President and General Manager of the Ferrari GT Department.

He is a True Gentleman. I had the opportunity to meet him at Concorso this year. I asked him to sign my 1:18 Kyosho F40 and it was no problem at all. Then he was all smiles when getting photos.

    Very cool.

I still think he is the most unrecognized/underappreciated guy when it comes to all things Ferrari: I mean this guy single handedly designed all the icons we are going gaga about. It wasn't Enzo or Pininfarina, it was this guy. Yet nobody seems to have even heard his name.

For me, Leonardo Fioravanti is up there with Ettore Bugatti in terms of spectacular and utterly gorgeous design.

From the Dino to the Daytona to the 308, his designs are rolling pieces of art. I could wax poetic about his work for a long time, but I wouldn't want to bore anyone ;)

Fioravanti is a true gentleman. A read about him, and the story of the citreon. He designed the car orignally and it was the design was stolen by the french. He is a genious is car design. For the first time ever, I was able to purchase a ferrari magazine that actually credited him for many ferrari designs. His personal daily driver is a silver 308 GTB, which he designed along with the testa. I am happy that he is getting older, and with all respect, he deserves to see his name recognized for all these designs. Paninfarina was a design studio he worked for, and without his designs, ferrari would not be able to finance there racing department. I wish to meet him one day. If I new he would have been at the concourso I would have flew there.

A few years ago, my wife and I were on a "Car Guy" tour of Italy, and one of the high lights of the trip was meeting Sr. Fioravanti & his son in their studio, and then going to his hillside villa to see a number of his cars and concepts that did not "make it".

He is and looks just like a poster boy for an Italian designer, not a single grey hair out of place.

Lucca (his son) first came top Monterey in 2009 and we sat with him at the FCA lunch, he was relaying these wonderful stories of sitting on his father's lap in Enzo's office while the details of the Daytona were being discussed.

The following year Leonardo Fioravanti came to Monterey also!
