Sir, I envy you for owning such beautiful cars. Where are you gonna put the 458 Italia when it comes? 599 HGTE looked stunning, but out of all your Ferrari's I will still pick the F40.

Fantastic post, thanks for describing the F40 to "dreamers" like me, every Ferrari is special but to me the F40 belongs at a level above, yes there are faster modern car but every account I have read about an F40 describes and experience and we all know experiences are not quantifieable.

Thanks again for the great post!

Much as I loved the write up on the F40, I'd also love to hear the tales from the delivery drivers about some of the 'less understaning' wives and girlfriends he's encountered

Wonderful write up and analogy !! BTW, your garage reminds me of mine - just a bit. My wall would not be complete without that very same vacuum cleaner !! :):)

I love F40s. Drive her in the best of health.

    Cheers, Hank

Fantastic description of what must be an amazing machine to drive. Ever since I first saw one in San Antonio TX back in '91 - it has been my dream to someday have the opportunity to even sit in one!

It's great to read first person accounts of what it's like to experience what I think is the most amazing Ferrari ever built!

Thanks for the write-up - the F40 is my favorite modern super-car from Ferrari. :)

I'll add a brief note here.

I took delivery of a 92 F40, that Joe had a hand in over this weekend; SN 92779. We bought the car from Joe in CA, had a good transaction, and then took it to Ferrari of Atlanta for a major service. Like hawkeye, I had never driven an F40 previously; not even sat in one either. But unlike hawkeye I've always had older stuff, 275's, Daytonas, Dinos, BB's etc.

Well, the car delivers over the weekend and goes straight into the garage; beat the rain but rains all Sat and Sun. Go into work today and get a buddy to go home at lunch with me to watch the car while I register it. In AL you have to drive the vehicle to the DMV if it is from out of state so they can verify VIN.

On the way there, taking it slow letting things warm up, I'm thinking to myself this thing feels like a big 308 what's the big deal. Register the car, buddy and I have some extra time and head for some more open road. Now all the while I'm looking at the boost gauge which is reading about 2 or 3 and I'm thinking to myself what gives is there something wrong with the sender or gauge; remember I'm under 3000RPM. Anyhow, we're warmed up now and I floor it in second gear, around 4000RPM the darn thing comes alive and I feel acceleration that I have never felt before. I'm looking at my buddy, I grab third and away we go again, I like this. I look at my buddy again and see the look on his face; I hope the SOB is not going for fourth. What a rush. I never felt that kind of power before. Boost gauge working fine.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Drew

Great write up by the way.

I am shocked no one has said the smell everyone can smell has nothingto do with the Staines on the passenger seat of all f40's.

Really enjoyed your write up and would be nice to hear a new persons perspective on the f40 (to say you had never even seen one in the flesh prior to it rolling up outside) in comparison to the modern ferrari's you have expeirence with. Would you consider it a different car altogether (driving wise) compared to your other cars, or would you saythey are so far apart they are like different makers.

Very refreshing to see a car guy truly love a car, fantastic translation of sharing a heart felt passion!

Even more refreshing to be so brutally honest. I bought a 612 / Bourget 9' chopper / Austin Healey 3000 / Camaro 69 z28 all without driving or personally viewing them.

    Enjoy!
