For me, I avoid the shuttles from downtown, the long lines at Peak Time make it a grinding way to go. The farthest lot and the longest walk, from on site parking is much better. They run buses around the track, west loop and east loop, so catching one of those can save lots of shoe wear, to say jump from MSG to the Main PLaza, or from Main Plaza out to T11.
1) There are lots of grandstand tickets on stubhub starting at $6 for Friday, so you might have some luck there. They go up of course on Saturday and Sunday. The best GA areas are along the east side of the track from Turn 3 to Turn 11. This is the best part of the track in general imho, and the views are big. The best grandstand isT9 imho. 2) There have been problems with getting people onto the track quickly for the celebration in the past, with the gates being opened too late and then the fans have a very long walk down the main straight to the podium. You can't really get all that close anyway. Not sure it's worth it. If you do wanna try it, the gates to enter are at the ends of the Main grandstand. You 'd need to get there before the race ends, and neither area offers a very good view of the track while you wait. 3) I never carry chairs in, but then I always move around a lot. If I thought I'd stay in one spot for a long time, I'd probably bring them in. For you, with younger kids in tow, shade will probably be an issue. There is VERY little shade at COTA, esp in areas where you can see the track, and it's forecast so far to be warm that weekend. 4) The Historic Paddock has been closed here in the past. Dunno why. Hope the poster above is correct in that it may be open this year, and at no additional charge. Montreal's is always open and it;s always free. 5) Bring sunscreen, hats, very comfortable, supportive shoes, sealed water bottles (1 per person? Not sure) or empty sports bottles that you can fill from watering stations. The food is good, but it's extremely expensive with long lines. Re: the wagon, I can't find anything on the COTA website FAQs regarding wagons one way or the other. So IDK.
I always thought it was funny that F1 has the Canadian Grand Prix in June and the US/ Mexican GP in October. You would think that they would want all the North American GP's to be consecutive kind of like the European GP's and the Asian GP's. The weather in Montreal in late Sept to early October would still be nice from a race?
And it used to be like this when we had Indy GP: The teams would just pack up everything onto trailers and haul it down to Indy. That said the American combo of Austin/Mexico/Sao Paulo makes sense too. Particularly weather wise.
Yeah it's usually beautiful in Montreal in June and in Austin in October/Novermber. When you try to pair up Montreal & Austin, someone will lose out in terms of nice weather.
Sorry to hear this. Having to go now just to see Hamilton be crowned as Champion? I applaud your fortitude Sir!

Thanks Scotsman, I was trying to reconcile from the photos the VIP Suite boxes....I could not see any at the top of T1?? And there used to be two of them between T2 and T3?? LOL about Sterling...I have learned not to wait on him, if I wish to see the entirety of any show. I think he is actually going to the Harvest Classic motorcycle event. He does not get excited about F1
Well, good luck with that one...I was there last year, and would have had to smash someone smaller to get the where the drivers were at the barrier! I don't think Kimi even showed, and that was the hat I had. Just Seb.
