Pre-production price $125 ... afterwards $149. In red only. Please read on if you have an interest.

I have been offering Enzo-style keys for Ferrari's made from 1989 to 2005 in my other For Sale thread ...

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/new-ferrari-keys-for-older-ferraris.553928/

Please review that thread for details and other photos.

Several of you indicated that you would have an interest if I could make available this style key for the Ferrari 308, 328 and other Ferrari's made prior to 1989 .

The illustration I am showing here is the double-sided key. For these other cars (below), the key is a single-sided key.

    This would include the following:
    • Dino 206
    • Dino 246
    • Dino 308
    • Ferrari 208
    • Ferrari 288 GTO
    • Ferrari 308
    • Ferrari 328
    • Ferrari 330
    • Ferrari 365
    • Ferrari 400
    • Ferrari 512 BB
    • Ferrari F40 (with single-sided ignition key)
    • Ferrari F50 (with single-sided ignition key)
I have been working with the local company that made the plastic injection molds and I have the cost estimate in hand on what it would take ... not cheap ... in fact, shockingly expensive. The injection mold would require an insert that would have to be machined and then the key blanks, which are a different shape than the one used for the later model cars, would need to be individually hand machined as well to fit the mold.

Bottom line is this ... if I move forward on this I can sell the keys for $149 each ... same as the ones I am selling now. But, I do not want to risk a lot of money having the single-sided keys made up and then not be able to recover my costs. I will move forward on this if I can get enough interest. For those wishing to partner with me, I propose offering the keys at $125 each if you order the keys pre-production. Afterwards, the cost will go to $149. I would like to have 50 pre-production orders so I can minimize my up-front investment risk. I would offer the keys in red only as the cost of making additional colors is too costly for pre-production planning purposes.

If you are interested ... please post a reply or PM me. I will collect your contact info and if I can get 50 pre-production orders at $125, I will then move to the next step. If you have friends who have a 308, 328 or the other models mentioned above, let them know as they may not be subscribing to this thread.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Steve

Wow! 13 keys so far. At this rate we can definitely get to enough interest to warrant pulling the trigger and get a production run.

I might be interested. Where can the keys be cut? I've never had a ferrari key made before and I have trouble finding any place that can even make a house key that works.

Any locksmith can duplicate the key. Even a hardware store will do it if they have key duplicating machine.

    Steve,
Please put me down for one for my fathers 308. I noticed in the other thread you had mentioned looking at the Enzo key in person. I have a few pics I will email you of my Enzo key for my 360 vs your key. Still loving your key to death while the Enzo key sits on the rack. :)

The original "Enzo" key, of course, came with the Enzo. I believe It was also an original key for the 360 CS. That key had the SF shield on it ...

The key is a hollow plastic shell and outer red layer is easily chipped which will reveal a black substrate. A better made key, in terms of longevity, is the 360 key which had an aluminum key head. Originally, it was painted a silver color, but that paint can easily be removed (after it becomes all chipped up) and the aluminum can be polished resulting in very attractive key.

Cars subsequent to the 360 had keys that were similar ... most of them were red. I believe the 612 key was similar shape as the Enzo key but had the Ferrari badge inlaid in the shell and I think it is silver color. Also, it was the key that started using internal cuts.

In the spring of 2016, I really wanted the red Enzo style key for my car and the choices for purchase were limited and the quality was dreadful. I really like the style of the key head. I think it is stunning. But after purchasing a key from Asia, I found it to be absolutely dreadful. The SF shield was merely a vinyl stickie and the black edge was plastic tape.

I approached the venture with the vision that there are others who would appreciate key design and if the price was reasonable and quality was good, I hoped to be able to recover my development costs and make a small profit. This is the result ...

I believe the prancing horse is very elegant. More so than the SF shield. But that is very subjective. I wanted to avoid any chance of chipping or peeling so I avoided using any paint or coating. The key head is solid acrylic resin.

I am quite proud of these keys and believe they are quintessentially "Ferrari" ... the design is stunning and colors pop with very deep red and yellow that are color matched to rossa and giallo colors of Ferrari's. Black, of course, is black. You may notice the horse on the yellow key is darker ... It is the same horse, molded in zinc alloy ... but the nickel plate is darker to contrast with the lighter yellow. The photo does not do it justice.

So initially, I went for the double sided key shank used in cars from 1989 to 2005. With the interest expressed to make these keys using single sided key shanks for cars prior to 1989, I need to have a minimum number of people willing to pre-order so that I can have reasonable assurance that I can recover the incremental cost of having the plastic injection molds modified for the different key blank. .

Anyway, that is a long story, but I thought you might want to know the genesis of this project.

    Hi Steve,

    Beautiful. Please call/text me at 917.846.1636. I would love a yellow key for a 1990 Mondial t and a red one for a 1989 328 GTS.

    Kind regards,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I am pretty sure the Mondial t uses a double sided key. This newer style key is already available for the Mondial t ... go here to see details ... http://klassikcarkeys.com/ferrari_key.html

The 328 uses a single-sided key and with your interest in the single-sided key I am to 24 people who have indicated a strong interest. If 25 more people indicate an interest I will pull the trigger and get the plastic injection company to go ahead and create the injection mold modification and then do a production run.

    Regards,

    Steve
