Hi just seeing who else is driving to Melbourne? I am leaving from South of Sydney Am thinking leave around Sunday lunch time and stay over night at Albury, then an easy run into Melbourne on Monday. Not sure if there is a group already organized.
If you're staying in Albury, get an early start next morning and get on the Murray Valley Hwy through Tallangatta, then turn right on the Omeo Hwy down to Bairnsdale, then a couple of (boring) hours to Melbourne. I promise it will be one of the great drives of your life - you'll enjoy it more than the rally.

i'm booked to stay at the Linaker hotel in Beechworth (about 1/2 hour past Albury).. its a beautiful little down with a craft brewery and lots of nice restaurants
The Linaker looks OK to me, A little further down the road from Albury, but heading in the right direction, parking is well hidden Just rang they have plenty of space at the moment. DMWC - how does that sound to you? where is your starting location Gaxford - where is your starting location?

Hence and therefore,take a little extra time and try to find as many 'roads less travelled' as you can.
I know exactly where you guys are coming from, but, will have the wife in the car, so every conceivable spot in the car will have shoes, shoes, hand bags and maybe a few more shoes. So I am definitely splitting the trip, 10 hours straight of that, no way, besides in no rush, and as Kena said I expect the Highway patrol to be pretty active.

The Linaker looks fine to me I will be heading off from Turramurra and picking up my travelling buddy from the Hills District before getting on to the M2 and then the M7 I could leave early enough to meet up with you just south of Sydney
