I went to a Porsche club track day in Austria once, lots of fun, practice in the morning, catered lunch with wine then racing after lunch.

They have a different outlook, act like an adult and you'll be treated like an adult.

Lots of real race cars, good clean racing, serious, but clean with no incidents.

    Gents,

That looks like the Blancpain series. I'm looking for less commitment. I think my SCCA full competition license can transfer over to FIA bronze. ACCUS FIA is FIA in America and has SCCA as a member under it where license would transfer to FIA ABC. I think now those are iron bronze etc.

I'd like to find some club races in europe where I can just rent a car and race like I can do anywhere in the USA where I can sign up for any SCCA Majors race. In the USA I transport my racecar around. We have plenty of rentals in the USA so I assume the same for Europe.

1st problem is finding the venue to race. The second is finding who I can rent racecar's from.

What you did Dave is more of what I am looking for.

UK Ferrari club series has been known to have turn up and drive - at a slightly more serious level is the Nurburgring type sports&saloon series (VLN ?) which has a UK equivalent in Britcar

Right now its kind of a big question as you're effectively asking about any series in any car in any country on any date - once you get a bit more focus the chances are series organisers will have suggestions for rentals

True. I don't know how the race community looks in Europe.

In USA there are many series too but series are pro series. I'm eligible to do low level pro in USA now like TransAm and World Challenge they are costly and well...Pro. I just want to have fun and see/race cool tracks like SPA. In USA after all the pro series there is SCCA and NASA as amateur pick your event and arrive and drive as long as you have the license that can lead to pro racing if so inclined. Then there are even more lesser known race organizations with the intent to be local and small. I'm looking for the SCCA equivalent in Europe where the majority of racers are guys with non-racing day jobs racing for fun and love of the sport with no intentions of being pro-racers.

I used to compete in National single seater races in the Uk, when I was much younger and slimmer!, I then ran a team for several years preparing cars and now work as a race instructor. I have several contacts in the UK scene but would need to know the sort of racing you are interested in as the teams tend to specialise in just one or two championships.

Other questions could include do you have a passport (since my understanding is 50 % of Americans do not) ?

Do you only speak 'English' (which would make mainland Europe series harder) ?

What about the Britcar offer did you like or not like ? If nothing else it will give an indication of where to go next

Passport is no problem. English is my only language. I can do a little french but it has been a long time.

I don't want to commit to a series. I want to cherry pick races within a series to race. Or find a group like scca where cherry picking races is the norm.

As greyboxer mentioned, well worth considering the Ferrari Formula Classic. Good racing, good people, cherry pickable, and most years they cover European circuits including Zandvoort and Spa. which remains my all-time favourite piece of tarmac :)

SCCA is a National group, just like ADAC is for Germany, MSA is for the UK, ACI is for Italy, etc.

Each runs their own class structure, schedules, levels, events.

Some follow international classes with small differences (F3, F4, GT4) and in most, there are marque specific series.

When I go, I'll rent a car similar to the one I race in the US, and race as Spa and Brands Hatch with the SRCC. Or, I'll run historic events that I want to do, like the Nurburgring OldTimer races or HSCC in the UK.

    Can't wait. ;)

    Peter,

Is there a whole bunch of hoop jumping? Sounds like I have to find "National
Competitions Authorised for Foreign Participation" and pick a race. I guess each country has such a list. Then I go to SCCA who sends some kind of application to ACCUS who acts as the ASN representative for FIA in USA. Then someone says my SCCA Full competition license is OK and I get some kind of FIA license...Bronze? Is this sort of the process or do I have this totally wrong? Then I find a car to rent for that race and voila...

I think you are slightly over-complicating this: just send SCCA five hundred bucks and go to Europe - most series (apart from possibly the most junior) would be happy to see you

OK so now I've read some of your older posts and thought about them

It seems to me for example a car from Jaco for an RCN (not VLN) round is what you're after but not necessarily at the 'Ring

    http://www.jacos-paddock.co.uk/nurburgring-racing/

Is that a fair summary ? And if not what would you like different ?

Thanks for the contact. Jacos sounds like they can put together what I want. I have contacted them.
