i look at this picture and i dont get excited too often, in fact looking at some nubile young nymphet 6' leather studded honky white woman i kinda get aroused but to look at that pic with the speed limit signs ........well a picture tells 1000 words.

So if goober doesn't want to go during the holidays, it means the trip would have to take place before July 9 or after July 24. ;)

Personally I would prefer before the 9th (can't wait till the 24th :D ), but in the end I will be happy with whatever you other guys end up deciding on since you are the 'important' ones ;)

As long as the Sadelaidiens don't mind a Victorian interloper.

Taking on a trip like this would be foolish without technical support!

I'm in, I just need a LM002 or Hummer or Cayenne TT as support vehicle with tools/spares etc.... Anyone got one laying around???

I'm sure they won't mind, deep down they are kind and warm people - you just can't tell from their actions/appearance. :D

Great idea, but my car already has its hols booked for this year - Perth in October!
And Ferrarifixer, the only real 'exotic' I saw on the trip was a Hummer on the streets of Darwin (twice!). Might need to take along a minitanker as well if you want 98 fuel.

I won't have the car I'm after by July but if any Qlder is going and would like a navigator I'd be keen to go or even fly down to Sadelaide and hitch a ride with you guys (see, I don't mind you guys at all:D)

If I'm snubbed I'll cry in the corner and you'll never hear the end of it.

I've got so many hols owed to me my company director is forcing me to take time off and I can't think of a better way to spend time.

Any chance of a ride boys ?

thats not until October right? Can we wait that long?

I was planning on going to the event, but it might be a bit much to combine that with this run to Darwin.....

However as I said I will leave the decision up to you guys with the cars - whenever you can all make it would be best, and I will work around that. ;)

I'd kill an ML (possibly deliberatly but certainly anyway). They're made by disadvantaged Mexicans that werent good enough to build Beetles. And built from parts that Trabant had left over and used in a "Car parts for arms deal".

X5 4.8 would be the minimum spec support vehicle!

Vics are definitely welcome. :) We need people from all over to make it a truly national happening.

Looks like this thing could shape up. We just need a date that suits everyone. Like Goober, I can't do 9 - 24 July (well, I could probably crib a day or two of school hols at a pinch). Can't wait till October either.

Well, I did it in a day on a BMW K100RS many years ago, but I wouldn't recommend that. Started at 7am and arrived Darwin at midnight.

How about day 1 to Tennant, day 2 to Mataranka, day 3 Katherine and day 4 Darwin? Or drop the overnight in K and go straight to Darwin after a quick trip out to the Gorge?

Yeah looking at the map its not that far from Mataranka to Katherine so it might be a good idea to keep going and save ourselves one overnight stop. ;)

So all up this would be about a week long trip (both ways)??, and even longer for those of you who are driving to Alice Springs from Adelaide or elsewhere.

I assume its possible to get flights from Perth directly to Alice Springs?

Depends if my son wants to come or not. Then again he may prefer to drive himself, then again itmay be better if I don't invite him.

Exactly how much "fun" are we planning on having guys?? :D
